Meh

I liked it for the first 1800 miles. Then the thing died. I waited six weeks for a new drive motor, because apparently that was what had failed. I was given an inferior rental car. When I finally got my car back, I cannot make the smart key work, I’m happy that the car runs, but it’s annoying that the smart key won’t pair.

I love my Ioniq 5. Hyundai customer care, not so much

I do love my new car. I picked it up in mid June, and already have 4300 miles on it. We've done a couple of road trips (about 400 miles round trip), and the car drove like a dream over every kind of road. It's my first EV, and I wonder why I didn't take the plunge sooner. The regen and driver assistance took a little while to get used to, and I'm still learning how best to use them. If I had another $5k to spend, I would have gone for the Limited, but honestly I couldn't justify that much for seat memory and a sunroof, and my SEL AWD has everything else I need. Now my complaint. I have a 2026, which I decided on in part after checking out my brother in law's 2025. He told me about (and showed me) his digital key card, which he (and the Quick Reference Guide) both said was an option on the EV menu. I couldn't find it. I called the my dealer, and never got a clear answer. So I called Hyundai Customer Care. After a 45 minute conversation (yes, it's a genuine Hyundai part, yes my bil's car has the identical trim level, and so on). I got a lame "they must h ave deleted the option for owner programming as part of the model change." So I should take it to the dealer, and I did. I was more than a bit unhappy about having to pay the hourly rate, but here's the kicker. I waited more than two hours, and when I learned that the service tech was still on hold for Hyundai tech to give him an access code needed to do the job. The dealer's service was great, but they got the same kind of support that I had gotten.

Getting Picky After Living With the Ioniq 5

Finding things I like and don't like about the Ioniq 5. I own the car, so I shouldn't call it ugly, think AMC Pacer, but it is plain. Not stylish on the outside, but I really like the interior and the openness of the passenger compartment. It's comfortable and grey interior is balanced by the white interior so it looks good together. The turning radius is poor compared to my Subaru Outback, but apparently it comes from the longer wheelbase and 19" rims.

I love this car but the door handles stick out when its unlocked and it doesn’t lock automatically. This is a terrible design flaw of you live in a big city like me

Only frustrated by annoying message to KEEP MY EYES ON THE ROAD AND HANDS ON THE WHEEL while doing just that. They should fix that with a software update.

It's Not The Car, It's The Care.

I bought this car June 11, 2026. I have trouble with Hyundai of Palm Springs fixing issues associated with the vehicle. I have had trouble with Hyundai of Yuma, fixing issues with the vehicle. I have had trouble with Hyundai Customer Care in resolving issues. It's not the car, it the service, It's the lack of integrity, lack of knowledge, training and general attentiveness. Hyundai of Palm Springs= I had to pay double for registration because they failed to send the registration in to DMV. After a month of driving, many phone calls, I paid for registration myself at the local DMV. I signed a document stating NOT to install the front license plate bracket; they did anyway. Hyundai of Yuma=No one is trained to diagnose the level 2 charger supplied with the vehicle (ICCB). So, they lie to you about the charger, instead of admitting they have not been trained. The first lie; "It's not a level 2 charger." Lie 2; "It won't charge at 30 amps." UNACCEPTABLE! Hyundai Customer Care= They DON'T. these matters were brought to them (Celeste) after bad service from dealers. They do nothing to intervene! HCC doesn't care dealers employ untrained service technicians, that they ruin the bumper of a car, they make you pay double registration fees. AND, I only have 1500 miles on it! I paid an additional $3080.00 for extended warranty!

Good Range Good Driver Leg Room

I bought the car for the range and driver leg room. It has both. I also find the safety features to be very well designed. The driver alert system however does not recognize that I am paying attention to the road. It has even canceled the cruise control due to mis-sensing. The lack of a spare tire is another concern. Some great features however are the headlight visibility, frunk compartment, and providing the adapters needed to use almost any charging station.

Love it, just some quality of life issues that could be fixed

A few things to hopefully add/improve. The handles staying in unlocked position unless you physically lock all doors or have it in gear is a problem. Tie it to the fob and automatically lock and unlock as you approach, don't unlock all doors at once, which could be a safety issue if someone is trying to get into your vehicle while you're getting into the driver seat. Make it an option to not have your handles pop out on unlock. Would be nice to have some sort of pet mode or camp mode. Also better integration with Apple Carplay/Android Auto for battery levels and route planning, or better interface with your UI and phone media.
