Vanity Status Vehicle.
These 2007 and recent model jeeps are not the reliable off road vehicles of long ago. The motors are crammed with features to increase horsepower for unnecessary speed and acceleration. The body has many places where salted water and grit accumulate. If you buy a recent model be sure to identify these regions and yearly re-undercoat. Lee Auto Auburn told me all had been taken care of at the factory. That was false. Also the "chip" monitor gives frequent false warnings. I am looking for a pre-yuppie replacement that has no "chip", a simple body either completely sealed from below or easy to clear with a hose from above or below, a metal gas tank, and a motor that I can see plainly when I open the hood, the old style with visible and easily checked spark wires, distributer and carburetor, in case something goes wrong might and needs to be fixed there and then with a few simple tools. The rug is unnecessary; I cannot remove it because it no longer covers pressed sheet metal but is of some weird composite; in spite of a covering pad, moisture accumulated underneath in winter and corrosion resulted. If you buy one of these jeeps you will need to comply with the dealers ideal plan that you replace it in a few years and pass timely these problems on to someone else.
