A disappointment
This is our third Hyundai, since 2004, and may be our last. Although the design is sharp and up to date, there are mechanical/electrical issues that have yet to be entirely corrected. The transmission has be slow to engage from a stop during any situation that requires more than very gradual pressure on the gas pedal. In other words, if you had to accelerate quickly to avoid a collision from a standstill, you couldn't. There has been at least one recall related to the computer controlling the transmission. It hasn't worked. Most recently, the car simply stopped while we were traveling in Mexico. There was over a half tank of gasoline, and plenty of power to operate the starter, but to no effect. We contacted Hyundai USA's customer service, were given a claim number, and encouraged to have it towed to the nearest US dealership, over 300 miles north.
Essentially we were left on our own. When I asked about having our warranty honored by the closest Mexican Hyundai dealership (100 miles away), I was told that we'd have to have the car towed there and pay for the work--they would review the paperwork and decide what they might offer. The repair, whatever it might have been, was successful, but, after submitting the records to Customer Service, we have not heard a word. No acknowledgement of receipt, no time frame for a decision. Nothing.
