2017 Tucson Night is Dangerous at Night
Can no longer recommend purchasing a Hyundai - despite having loved by 2006 Tucson for all 11 years I drove it. Purchase a new 2017 Tucson a few months ago. Since daylight savings time ended I've discovered the headlights are very poor when driving on completely unlit roads at night. One can see no more than 3 car lengths ahead and no higher than 4 feet - it is like there's a line drawn on the horizon and everything else is black above and beyond. Even more problematic is that when on an incline, only the road immediately in front of you is visible - if there was someone/something in your path, you wouldn't know until after the collision. The service department said there was no fix for this - that's how the new Hyndais and Toyotas headlamps are being made. They also apologetically told me that installing brighter LEDs wouldn't help - and that there was no room for adjustment, I would need to drive with my brights on all the time. So guess I'll just wait for the recall - and the class action lawsuit when folks start having accidents. The Hyundais (and apparently Toyotas) I can no longer recommend. The car looks great - and is comfortable overall. The Turbo is sometimes problematic, from revving at a stop sign like you're in a drag race, to not having the power to pass. The automatic rear hatch door is annoying: not always opening, not always closing . . . and it's a real drag when you have the key in your pocket when washing the car, or brushing off snow and ice. But it's all minor compared to the poor design of the headlights. Can't believe that design flaw passed.
