2018 Hyundai Tucson Sport
I definitely prefer the 2.4L engine in the Sport over the 1.6L Turbo or 2.0L engines. No turbo lag and more power off the line than the 2.0L engine. The Sport Tires are a bit hard as they are a larger diameter with a shorter sidewall than the standard tires. They also take a "set" if you don't drive the Tucson Sport every day. Handling is crisp and I really appreciate the blind spot detection and the rear cross-traffic alert. Fuel economy has beaten EPA estimates so far, and I love the fact that the transmission downshifts as you slow the vehicle, providing some engine braking and enabling the car to leap out of the way if you have to hit the gas suddenly to get out of the way. Most other manufacturer's transmissions just coast and let the brakes take all the load. Then if you have to accelerate again, you find yourself in too high a gear and it hesitates to downshift. Not the Tucson! I thought I would hate the push-to-start system, but found I like it much better than I expected. The sound system is better than I expected too, and the STANDARD Apple Car Play is GREAT. Are you listening Honda, Toyota & Subaru? There is plenty of head and leg room for my children, with the tallest being 6'2". The driver's seat does feel hard after a while driving, though. There is little wind noise, and I suspect road noise is better in versions without the 19" sport tires. Reliability seems good so far - just a faulty window switch that was replaced under warrantee. Paint gloss is very good, but I have water spots on the nose and hood from when I took delivery that do not come out with a wash and wax. The dealer's sprinkler system is the likely culprit. The dealer's detail shop said they could get them out, but the decision appears up to the sales manager. I don't know why it couldn't just be processed as a warrantee issue. It is not time for the first oil change yet, but I love the fact that it DOES NOT REQUIRE SYNTHETIC OIL, making oil changes affordable once again.
