I'm happy with so many things on this vehicle, but several things could be so much better.
We have 4,400 miles on our 2018 Santa Fe. We like many, many things. Styling, both inside (especially) and out, available options, the fit and finish of the materials and the quality of the materials themselves are all a plus. The stereo system is very good. Comfort on short to medium trips is good, but anything over 200 miles and you start to feel it in your hips and lower back. My wife and I both noticed this on two recent trips of 200 plus miles. Here are some of the cons. I was terrible disappointed with the road noise. We didn't notice this when we first acquired the vehicle because it was winter and the roads in our area where always snow covered. Once we drove on pavement, the road noise was disturbing. Also, the ride quality was very poor. We seemed to feel every bump, no matter what size, that the road had to offer. After researching the factory installed tires and finding they scored a 4.9 out of 10 on customer satisfaction, I spent $800 for new tires, which improved the road noise and ride quality by 90%. Shouldn't have to do that with a new car. Large bumps or dips are still and issue and this vehicle takes them terribly. Gas mileage is less than expected, but hopefully will improve once we get beyond the 5k mile break-in period. The hands-free calling and navigation hands-free voice commands are extremely slow to respond, at least compared to two other vehicles (not Hyundai) that we have with the same options. There is an issue with wind noise on the passenger front door and window. On occasions, I found myself checking to see if the window was down a bit because of the pronounced wind noise around the passenger front mirror/window. All in all, I would have liked to give this vehicle a 5-star rating, but with the cons we found, a three is about where we are with it. A fine vehicle, but it could be so much better with a few refinements.
