Solid small pickup

Great little truck with just the right amount of storage for those that don't need a full-time bed. Ok mileage with a great ride, thanks to the unibody. Downside is customizing and repairs can be challenging and pricey due to the unibody. Only issue I've had is the transmission is finicky which drives worries at higher miles.

Better than the Toyota Tacoma

We replaced a 2017 Toyota Tacoma SR5 with our Hyundai Santa Cruz SEL Activity. At first, we were hesitant due to the four-foot bed and then realized, "Do we really need a big truck?" The answer is simple . . . NO. The Santa Cruz rides like a car and holds everything you need to take without having to carry it inside the vehicle. We are so impressed with the Hyundai product that we just purchased a Hyundai Palisade Hybrid Calligraphy, and we drive these vehicles rather than the BMWs sitting in the other garages.

It’s the little things that annoy me

Generally good vehicle. But here are the things that daily annoy me. 1. Radio does not return to the category you were on when you left. Favorite have to be preselected every time, hit media hit favorites. 2.You cannot lock the doors before closing them. My previous vehicles, would not lock if fob was detected inside the car and prevented getting locked out. Why not you? 3. If fob is in my jean pocket, will not automatically open door unless I literally lean on the car. 4. No good way to search for a non favored channel on Sirius. 5. Phone charger will not charge if you have any sort of I phone case. And who doesn’t have a case. Useless.

Lovely until it exploded with no warning

Let me first start by saying that I am a big car enthusiast and my vehicle choices are carefully selected before making a purchase. I was very excited when I bought my 2025 Hyundai Santa Cruz limited new from the showroom. The truck did everything I needed to do: great gas mileage, practical for calling my family around, and small truck use. I had big plans to take the vehicle camping later this year and on some road trips. However, the vehicle exploded with me in it with no warning, became fully engulfed in flames and nearly killed me. No check engine light, no warnings, just an explosion lots of smoke and flames. At the time of the incident the vehicle was only at 7800 miles and had been serviced before even needed. The experience left me terrified for my life, deep emotional drama, and fear of one of my biggest passions: cars. Incident is currently being handled, but I don't think that the trauma will ever be overcome or fairly compensated. There was a chance my daughter could have been in the car with me and we both could have lost our lives. Alternatively, if the vehicle was in my garage, I could have lost my entire home, all my belongings, and my cats. This incident has left me terrified of not just Hyundai's, but vehicles in general.

Mostly Good Santa Cruz

We are older adults and found it important to add running boards to ease getting in and out. Also would like to have had a heated steering wheel option. Overall, we found using the navigation/connectivity/radio use difficult to understand and navigate. We are not completely naive about electronics but still find it difficult to understand how to use some features. We have gone to the dealer for more tutoring, which was helpful. Using the manual was of limited use: too many steps. We did go on an extended road trip and it was great. Mileage was good, comfort was good, sound system was good, did not have any problems. I am a fan of Hyundai.

First Year Review

Love the truck. Fun to drive. Easy to lean over side of truck to reach something in the bed vs having to get up into the bed. Over long distance drives, the seats become uncomfortable. The roll top bed cover is great but the cover canister eats value bed space.

Great with a few annoyances

The 2025 Santa Cruz XRT is quiet and comfortable, with plenty of power and refinements. I love the smooth ride, gas mileage, and looks. The shortcomings are incredibly annoying and dangerous interruptions while driving. The "Consider Taking a Break" alert comes on regularly and is distracting and unsafe. Also, The Speed Control get disabled if the steering column camera cannot see the driver's eyes. This is also dangerous as not only is it distracting, your speed will suddenly drop. Sunglasses can interfere with this as well as your hand placement on the wheel. These 2 things might have been a deal-breaker if I had known about them. They did not manifest themselves are the test drive.
