2014 Subaru Forester

I have the touring model and have enjoyed driving it. I live out in the country, so we have more snow and ice and have never had a problem negotiating the roads. With all the features on this car that can be used when weather and roads are challenging, it is a wonderful choice.

Very depenable but...

Subarus burn oil. There is no other way to word it. Not too much but you'll need to add a quart between oil changes so you have to be on it. We keep a new quart in the car. Great car otherwise. Great visibility when driving. Awesome in snow.

Roomy despite its size.

I bought this vehicle for fuel efficiency (4 liter engine) and interior capacity. It is not a luxury ride (other models or trim packages can accommodate that) but it is serving its purpose, well on its way to 200K miles! The interior space allows handling of bigger, boxier items that won't fit into comparable SUVs by other manufacturers. I needed a dependable, fuel efficient vehicle with adequate interior space for many miles on the road, both personally and professionally. This Forester gives me all that I bought it for and has needed only occasional repairs.

Overall good but horrible seats and bluetooth

Love the car but it takes a toll on your back during long journeys. Doesn't have the best suspension which is OK as it makes up on reliability. Engine burns a ton of oil even after getting shirt block replaced so have 2 quarts of oil budgeted for refills between oil changes because the engine burns through the stuff... Bluetooth disconnects on random but if you're driving a stick you can theoretically throw the car into neutral and rev match back when it turns back on provided road conditions are safe to do so while moving... Not recommended for sure if you don't known what you're doing but overall she's a nice car. Had to replace the clutch around 94k miles, passenger power window failed around 95k miles and 9+ years, had to replace one of the windshield fluid pipe branches things that failed a few years ago and I can't think of much else that went wrong with the car

Disappointing

We have owned Subarus for many years, but this was our first Forester. Although the manual indicated 7500 miles between oil changes, we have never been able to comfortably do that. The engine loses oil, so that we need to add about 1/2 quart of oil at about 4,000 miles into an oil change, and the dealer has now simply said oil changes should occur at 5,000 miles. The upholstery in the car is disappointing: cleaning up a small spill results in a larger water stain. Handling in extreme snow conditions has also been less satisfactory than expected.

Not crazy about it. Poor Quality.

1) Rear camera hard to see. 2) Headlights are weak, low beam is a safety hazard. 3) No dash light to say headlights are on. 2012 model has light. 4) Remote start is annoying. Motor shuts off when you open the door. Have to restart the engine. 5) no power source for cel phone charging when car is off. Lurches when you step on the gas. Tires spin in snow . Hard to feather the gas. Repairs: Between 23 to 27 months: Driver door trim falling off, Radio/GPS off, had to be replaced, Battery dead at 23,000 miles. Now using oil, have to add between changes.

2014 Subaru Forester

I purchased this car used. Love the driving but the vinyl seats have fallen apart. Duct tape on a 2014 car?? Had the recall and now a steering wheel problem. Always been a Subura fan but cars are not made like they used to be.

The one thing I have against the Forester is the seating is very uncomfortable.

I love my Forester and would buy another one if I was in the market for a new car IF they made the seats more comfortable.

Too many costly repairs

I loved this car when we first bought it. It is spacious, comfortable and rides well. However at 140,000 miles, a lot of things are going wrong and the repairs are costly. Not sure I will buy another Subaru.

2014 Subaru Forester

Good solid driving and dependable car, but with some downsides. The vehicle requires a valve adjustment at about 100k. We all know our cars last much longer than that. To accomplish this job on this vehicle, the engine MUST BE REMOVED. It can't be done in a normal shop. You're in for a WHOLE TON of MONEY to have this done, and to have the factory do it? Roll up your sleeve and get ready for the blood draw.

It’s a love hate kinda thing

Like I said, I love driving the car but I hate how much work I’ve had to put into it. Fun factor is a ten, roominess in the seating area is a ten, EyeSight is incredible with cruse control as is the push button start and proximity unlock key fob. Really love the power too. However, I’ve had to replace the transmission (under warranty), control arm bushings, (now needing it for the second time), chased down and repaired several oil leaks, and now I need to replace the rear main seal! The car has 128,xxx miles on it. Fun while it lasted that’s why it gets three stars. Now it’s time to sell it before the turbo or whole motor goes out.

Great engines; the rest of the car leaves something to be desired.

Purchased my 2014 Subaru Forester with 20,000 miles on the odometer. Being a previous Subaru owner I expected the same reliability and dependability. Unfortunately this was not the case. All the wheel bearings started going out before 50,000 miles. To their credit, and because the car was till under warranty, these were replaced. This was alarming for me so I started digging for information and learned Subaru was buying parts from third-party suppliers. In this instance the wheel bearings were coming out of China. Did some more digging and learned a great number of their parts are no longer manufactured by Subaru. Now I'm slightly out of warranty and the A/C stopped working and the wheel bearings are starting to go again. I'm middle of the road in my opinion about Subaru's. I love the safety ratings and what the company as a whole stands for (environmental issues, community support, and the ASPCA). I am less comfortable purchasing another Subaru after my experiences with my 2014 Forester.

Bad SUV

This vehicle is a pig for oil usage. The rear springs broke. Eats wheel bearings. The CVT valve body was just replaced. Gas mileage fluctuates between 18 - 28 mpg. Only occasionally over 30. Worst purchase I ever made. Tried to get some help with Dealers and Subaru Corp. but I didn’t buy new; even though these are known problems.

My first Subaru purchased in 2013

I had problems from day one with my new 2014. Brakes, wheel alignment, and no help with these issues from the service dept. I had them fixed out side Parker subaru. My Forested runs great, and I am very happy with it.

Lots of problems

Bought the car used with 35,000 miles, battery died on the test drive, dealership replaced battery. 45,000 miles AC went out, 65,000 miles will bearing went out, 80,000 miles the other wheel bearing went out. 95,000 miles engine ran horribly sensor failure Subaru dealership took two weeks to fix the problem. 107,000 miles suspension bushings and ball joints bad and another sensor failure local shop fixed. To me this car is not very reliable when it runs it runs fine. It’s been on lots of trips and performed good that’s about all I can say for this car

Never buy during a redesign year

Not just my opinion; it’s shared by many others. And a car rating site said the 2014 Forester was the worst in that design cycle. Too many recalls. Overdesigned and underperforms. Repairs are really expensive due to bad design choices (e.g., placement of spark plugs).

2014 Subaru Forester

In the months I've owned this vehicle, it's been in the shop a lot for recalls and such. The engine whines and clacks. It has many useless extras like setting birthdays and anniversaries on the clock, but the clock itself is nearly impossible to set. Talk about complicated...I'm not an IT specialist and am not impressed with my Subaru Forester.
