A good car with one concerning issue.

My primary issue is with the electronic power steering, which I feel is poorly designed. I have read other reviews for this model that complain of this problem, so this is not just my particular car. The rest of the machine seems to be a good product.

Decent

We like the 2012 Elantra for the most part. It's been a decent car. Looks stylish. The biggest complaint my wife has is the seats. The "wings" on the seats come up too sharply and irritates her sciatica. And after the first year they got a couple of stains. We purchased car upholstery cleaner several times and tried to clean the couple of little spots and it just made big spots that we can't get rid of and look disgusting. It got 41 mph once when we first had it but hasn't gotten near that since.

Love me little car

Like said above love my little car. Great MPG. Low Maintenance. Everything works great. Even at 118,000 miles. Only reason i gave 4 * and this was my fault when purchasing, wish it had more power. Back-up camera wouldnt have hurt. All new models have these options.

Excellent Car

I purchased the car in 2014 with 25k miles on it. I am still driving it as of May 2019. Easy to drive, seats 4 adults (5' 9" H) comfortably, excellent trunk space. This car has performed surprisingly well in the snow.

Overall Satisfied

I have enjoyed my Hyundai's great gas mileage and dependability. Have had a few issues (steering went and windows fog on inside when it rains), but love everything else about it. Seats fold down which allows for transportation of larger (longer) purchases; great trunk space.

style

I have had this car for 7 years. it's the perfect car for my commute.I still love the styling of this car. It is what a 21 century car should look like. The size is perfect with lots of leg room for a smaller car. the breaking is the best, really tight for an older car. The quality is excellent for a car in it's price range and I have had few mechanical problems over the last 7 years. The only down side is that fuel economy was not as good as originally advertised and the rims on my model get scraped easily.

Dependable car. Never left me walking.131,000 on it now.

Dependable car. Never left me walking.131,000 miles on it now. Has road noise and not a solid sound when you shut the doors. Had bad shocks installed at the factory. Only found out the clunking in the back end was not normal after changing them out after the warranty period. I'll be keeping this car till it goes to the junk yard.

Mostly positive

The car runs fine, comfortable on long drives, has held up well under mostly city driving. Do the maintenance on schedule, it runs like a clock. There are two issues I have with the design, I consider severe drawbacks in cold/snowy climates, which covers at least 1/3 of the US. 1) LED lights never get warm enough to let the the light housing shed snow or ice. Pair that with the design of this car's headlight housing (long, very horizontal) and you have lights that earn their well known reputation for being poor at best. This is a safety issue for sure, for 1/3 of the country. 2) The horizontal flare from the side windows to the door handles. This flair catches snow. This snow piles up and sits on the handle, filling the opening between the handle and the door panel, and sits over the lock. Seems like a bad Idea, design wise. My third issue with the vehicle design is the window height. The bottom of the front windows are too high to comfortably rest my arm on when the windows are open (my preferred setting, weather permitting). Further, because the bottom of the window opening is so high, the height of the window opening doesn't allow me to rest my elbow on the window with my arm raised up holding on to the top of the window opening. I have short forearms, I can't rest my arm in this position at all. My fourth issue with the vehicle design is that unless you clear all the snow off the roof and no more snow lands on the roof, any flake of snow that blows off the roof during driving, sits on the trunk lid and creeps up the rear window, obscuring view and causing a safety hazard. Only driving at highway speed will blow light snow off the trunk lid, but heavy snow will still accumulate and pile up on the back window. I believe this is due to the upturn at the rear of the trunk lid. Is Hyunday drying to create down force on an Elantra, at the cost of safety? Hahaha.

Great car

Love my Elantra. I have the Limited with the tech package. Great vehicle. Good on gas. Not fast but plenty peppy. Had an accident with a deer and hardly any damage. Lots of bells and whistles for not a lot of money. Very reliable and comfortable.

Nice little buggy

I am pleased with the overall performance and dependability of my 2012 Hyundai Elantra which was previously owned when I purchased it from Gettel Hyundai in 2014. It is a dependable little car with a bit of pick up when accelerating from a dead stop. I can hardly hear the engine when it's running and don't have many mechanical issues even though it's 7 years (yikes!) Old. I had owned a Suzuki SUV prior to the Elantra but adjusted to this little buggy pretty quickly mainly because of the pick up and maneurverability.

Bought mine used

I did purchase my 2012 Hyundai Elantra GLS from a used car dealer. Of course it has issues but not because of the maker. I need a jack assembly in the trunk, the windshield is broken, the hood latch is broken & a few other things. Overall the car rides good & in descent condition for the age. So far I have really enjoyed my, new to me, vehicle. I was sad to see the resale value was not what I expected but still, it gets me from point A to B. No engine issues thusfar. I would recommend this vehicle to anyone. I could use some help finding & repairing some of the issues I do love my car!

I love my Elantra.

The Elantra never lived up to the gas mileage that was advertised. And the original tires are absolutely NOT appropriate or acceptable for Michigan winters. That said, the Elantra has been dependable and comfortable and I enjoy my car.

Good "bang" for the bucks.

Received delivery of my 2012 Elantra on November 11, 2011. It has been a very reliable car. I have not had any MAJOR REPAIRS done in the 8 years I have owned the vehicle. It is a decent running car on long highway trips. I have driven it from St. Louis to Chicago at least twice a year for 6 years and the ride was not fatiguing and the gas mileage was 34 -36 mpg. The reason I did not give it 5 stars is because Hyundai could not fix the pulling and drifting to the left that the car experiences. It makes driving a little frustrating to have to keep correcting the direction of the car's drift.

Hyundai Elantra 2012

I have only had one problem with my car and that was a faulty neutral safety switch which was repaired under warranty until now. Now my car starts intermittently and the mechanics can’t resolve my issue because it won’t happen for them.

Good dependable transportation

I've had the vehicle eight years and it has provided good, dependable transportation and it's good on gas mileage. There have been no major problems except recently when the vehicle had to be towed to the Hyundai service. I thought it was the engine but the issues were with the spark plugs, coils, and fuel injectors. One issue I have with the vehicle is that after only eight years the audio system is completely dead and, according to the service consultant, it needs to be repaired and the cost would be about $1400.00! Another issue is with the air conditioner. During the summer, when the temperature reaches over 100 degrees, the air conditioner barely cools; you can hardly feel the air conditioner inside the vehicle. Other than that, it's a good, dependable, little car.

Excellent car

This Elantra was purchased new in July 2011. My wife was the first driver...loved it. Then my daughter...it was ok for her... female teenagers are hard to please. Third driver was my oldest son. No issues but a little small for him and his German Shepard but he ran the devil out of it. Now my second son has it and loves it. My third son is fourteen and patiently waiting. The vehicle has over 170,000 miles and uses no oil and cranks Everytime onfirst attempt. I personally have faith in the safety and reliability of the car. Would not be afraid to travel cross country in it tomorrow. The Elantra has been West as far as New Mexico, North to Chicago and Wisconsin. And South to the Kennedy Space Center to witness the last launch of the Space Shuttle Atlantis. It's been a great ride.......

Hyundai Elantra 2012 Limited

Due to the spaciousness of the inside cabin, my Elantra is the chosen vehicle when our family of five go out. The navigation screen is larger than most. Sound system very rich. Expect normal vehicle maintenance. We experienced failures with the tire pressure sensors on all four wheels over time. Vehicle has been reasonably reliable, but the fuel economy is less than we expected. Handling is agile/spirited and acceleration is enough--actually car smoothly gets to high speeds and we don't realize it. An issue with the rear view camera was resolved when Hyundai corporate and the dealership extended my warranty on that part. From my experience over 8 years, I believe Hyundai customer service and maintenance support are excellent.

Great Car

I purchased a 2012 Hyundai Elantra used in 2014. The car has been an easy car to drive and maintain. I have over 109000 miles and I still get over 24 mpg City and 36mpg highway. The vehicle, after 6 full years in my possession has maintained its acceleration. Adult Passengers (5'10" ish) have enough leg room in the back seat

161K and still moving

a a-lot of factory recall calls on this car but it is still moving down the road. I have never had to replace rear shocks in a car that was only 4 years old before. I do love the color of the car. Like the sun roof.
