2012 Elantra

Although I enjoy driving my Elantra, I would suggest several improvements: The car does not have a lot of "pick up" on the highway; also, the weight of the car is such that it "moves" or "sways" in windy weather, along the freeway or highway driving; also, the starter/ignition already had to be replaced, along with a sensor in the shifting apparatus. I felt that a 4-year old car should not have had to have this replaced; I have never had this issue with any previously owned cars (none of them Hyundais). Sometimes the defrost system causes the windows to steam over, causing vision issues until it clears up. I'm not certain I would buy another Elantra, but I do like the size and comfort of the car, and the style.

Quite servicable except for the...

I am mostly very satisfied with my 2012 Elantra EXCEPT for the exceptionaly poor design of the electronic trunk release button on the key fob. I have opened the trunk hundreds of times by mistake. I have received absolutely no help from the dealer with this extremely annoying issue. It is a major annoyance. It ssuch a bother that it would affect my consideration of buying another Hyundai. Think this is a petty complaint? Think about coming back to your car after shopping finding your trunk open or having to get out of the car while it's raining to close the trunk lid. This has been going on for over four years. I think I'm viewed as whiner by the dealer so I just don't mention it any more.

My 2012 Hyundai Elantra

still one of my best purchases ever made. Handles amazing (best steering), has power when I need it (even though its an Automatic), low cabin noise on the freeway (compared to most), higher up then most cars (less worry about bottoming out on bumps, dips and steep driveways). It's safe, and comfy inside. Its considered to be a mid-sized Sudan but it's very roomy inside (My Husband is a big man and 6'1" and he can sit in the back or the front without feeling squished weather there are others in the car or not) (take that Toyota!) Great gas mileage on an empty freeway (even with my lead foot). a few things I don't like are the horrible gas mileage in city and over time, the gas mileage on the freeway went down too. I bought it for high gas mileage, affordability and dependability and now it has the same as my old car did. it still has 2 out of the 3. another thing is, DO NOT pay extra to scotch guard the interior. NEVER EVER WORKED, no matter how many times they redid it (I have kids that was allot of money wasted and it still makes me mad to look at the back seat and see all the stains and smells that won't come out). Lastly, the interior trim is cheap plastic that scratched the color off by looking at it wrong.

This car is average. Base line version. Haven't had too many problems with it with the exception of a problem in the axle. Also, gas mileage is not what they advertised, I get much less than was advertised but still get pretty good gas mileage.

2012 Hyundai Elantra

I like the bells and whistles (heated seats, blue tooth, satellite radio, etc). The car's power and performance is so-so. Speakers not great quality. Greatly disappointed in the gas mileage, which was one of the BIG reasons I bought the car. My mother's Honda Accord Sport has a lot more power and gets much better gas mileage.

2012 Hyundai Elantra : A Safety Issue

Jack and spare tire are not included for 2012 Hyundai Elantra. Instead, a can of sealant and a small air pump are provided which can only handle small leaks. A tire can get damaged to an extent that can not be handled with the sealant, and this without a jack could become a serious situation particularly in a rural area where help can not be obtained easily. A shame to Hyundai !

Good car, but not quite up to Honda or Toyota.

Almost 206,000 miles and 5.5 years before we retired it from duty as a civil process server's work car ( still being driven to work by a friend). This car has taken a beating through all kinds of driving; city, TRAFFIC JAMS, highway, dirt/gravel roads, COW TRACKS (wore out the original shocks within 2.5 years.).

just average

good gas mileage, nice ride, responsive handling. negatives: light weight (feel bumps, wind pushes car around, slant of windshield gives excessive glare. my 2006 elantra was a better car over this 2012, except for gas mileage. but for city driving, it is a fine car but uneasy road feel in snow due to lightness.

Good car

Car is pretty spacious for it's size. Engine is pretty powerful for a 1.8, 4 cylinder. Transmission is a bit jumpy and ride quality has decreased over the years. Check engine light was on because of a programming issue on the computer from O2 sensor. Nearly 60,000 miles and the car sometimes smells like bad eggs, must be the catalytic acting up. When I bought this car I did so because of warranty and gas mileage. We all know about the gas mileage and the fuel cost reimbursement program (what a joke). The most I get is 32 mpg on highway out of 40 claimed. Overall it has been a good car.

Elantra

Good on gas and great price, but.. to low to the road, low profile tire, vision is limited, abs not working when tires are not good or there is another problem, defiantly not good in snow, sand, and water.

Disappointing MPG

I wouldn't buy this car if I knew how poor the city fuel economy is. It was rated at 29 city. We can barely get 24. Highway mileage is closer to the claimed 40 MPG, but we don't drive long distance often.

bucket seats and arm rest

I guess being a woman it make s difference. but the bucket seat for the driver i odd and uncomfortable everyone says so that has driven my car. the passenger seat is fine. the arm rest hits my arm awkwardly it either needs to have cushion or to be about a 1/2 inch lower and it would be nice if the top of it opened for change. there needs to be cup holders in the back. maybe you could make it with a lever to tilt seat back or forth to clean under seat. it is almost impossible if something drops under seat to reach it. The rear window also needs a windshield wiper. the angle the snow builds up and you have to get out and scrap it off to see. I drive 110 miles a day. having to stop to clean off back window a pain.

peppy car, holding up well at 110K miles

Lots of get up and go but horrible road noise. Good for its purpose but definitely not a car geared for comfort.

2012 Hyundai Elantra

Bought my car new 5 yeas ago. Love the heated seats and I like the navigation system. Trunk size ok. Car feels a bit small inside so it's not very roomy. It's a nice drive, nothing fancy but comfortable. Wish the upgrades for navigation system were free. They aren't! ☹️

Not built for rural areas

I like the car a lot, and it's fun to drive, but I would not get another one. We live in a rural area, with rough roads, and the car is not built strong enough for the bumps and jolts it gets from our roads. Its suspension system has needed a series of repairs. Also, the bottom front shell cracks much too easily for an area where you often bump into snowbanks, especially when they thaw and refreeze to ice. Another problem: the nearest dealership is 150 miles away. But that was my mistake. As I said, it is a nice car and I like it--I have driven it over 100,000 miles in 6 1/2 years. Next time, though, I will look for something stronger and closer to home.

2012 Elantra

My motor has always had a loud clicking noise, and no one can tell me why my car doesn't run smoothly. The car shakes when I'm parked with the motor idling. I would never purchase an Elantra. I purchased this car because of the high advertised gas mileage it was suppose to get, but then later was sent a letter saying I could get free fuel card for so much but still have not received this from Hyundai.

Unimpressed

I only bought this car because my husband wanted me to because of the 100,000 mile warranty. I was driving a 2003 Toyota Echo. We are STILL driving it. I bought this car as a gift to myself after surviving cancer. I have had it for 6 years, and only have just above 62,000 miles on it, and now I am experiencing problems.
