Sporty car, nice design, just a few, minor complaints
I've had my 2015 Elantra SE for about 9 months. I love the design (inside and out) and think the build quality is very good. Some of my complaints the first few weeks of driving my car was the Deceleration Fuel Shut-off Technology (DFSO). But in time, I have learned to utilize DFSO to my advantage and minimize tapping the brakes when coming to a stop. Other complaints are the blind spots. The A pillars in this car are thicker than other cars I've owned. When going up and down the ramps in my parking garage at work, I have to be careful when taking corners because if somebody is walking in front of my car as I'm turning, due to the thick A pillars, I might not see them in time to stop. I drive VERY slowly going around these corners and will lean my head forward or back a little to make sure nobody is dumb enough to walk in front of me but if a dump truck ever lands on my roof, I'm confident I'll survive. The B and C pillars are also thick as well and create some blind spots. I have adapted to this by adjusting my side mirrors more outwards and this helped a lot. But yeah, the blind spots kinda stink a little bit. Since this is the first car I've ever owned that had "sporty, low profile" rims, my tires (17 inch I think) don't have as thick of sidewall as you would get on a normal rim/tire. As a result, more road noise is transmitted into the cabin. At first, I thought I had severe problems or somebody at the factory forgot to insulate the frame with sound deadening foam or something but after some research, a little extra noise is the price to pay for fancy rims. Another complaint is the driver seat. I think the lumbar support is WAY to high up the back. The passenger side seat doesn't have lumbar support and is more comfortable to me. I think that in the future, if my back can't adjust, I'm going to rip out the driver side seat and replace it when a seat that lacks the motorized lumbar support because I think that is what is making the seat a little difficult for my body to adjust to. My last complaint is I think the cabin should be maybe an inch taller. I'm not a tall guy (5' 10") but my head is maybe an inch or two from the roof. More than once, I've leaned up/forward to look around and bumped my forehead into the sun visor. My wife is shorter than me and when she drives the car, she has zero complaints so to each their own I guess.
