Hyundai Sonata 2013

Car needs better gas mileage. Had a engine problem which was a major inconvenience to me and my family. It really makes me scared to drive my car now. But I am thankful that Hyundai did fix the problem.

Not the best purchase

I owned a Hyundai Sonata almost 30 years ago and when compared to the model that I have now the inferiority of today's model is greater. Poor gas mileage. I've had more problems with this car than with the first one I purchased which was also used. I don't think the dealership took good care of this car. If I ever purchased another Hyundai It would be brand new and hopefully that would be the difference.

Unreliable

I've had so many safety recalls. It's broken completely down once. Gave me many life scares on the Highway. Also has been in the shop continuously and it's not even at 80,000 miles yet! Scary and unreliable.

Engine has recall that’s beyond repair

The 2013 sonata has an engine recall that causes the engine to stall. Has happened to me twice where the engine shut off while drive, locking my breaks and steering wheel. Very dangerous. Got it fixed and all they can do for me is put a new engine in the car and wait until it fails again. At least they gave me a lifetime engine warranty, and the gas mileage is unbeatable.

Recalls

I formally drove in Elantra and had excellent luck with it so I bought the sonata to go up a grade with the same manufacturer and I've had numerous recalls the motor locked up going down the road the company did stand behind it and what's good about that however it's makes me nervous about dependability and things seem to keep breaking on it

Wouldn't buy another one

I have a 2013 sonata limited that I bought new. I have had problems since day one almost! From the sunroof to the cheaply made starters to the recall after recall I can't keep up! Never mind my engine clunking out at 58k miles! Oh no need to speak on going to the dealer and not getting a loaner car! Just have to take it up the rear! So glad I paid that sucker off!

Hyundai, just keep it simple. Too many recalls

Hyundai Sonata was my dream car! I didn't know of anyone who had one in my circle of friends or family and I thought it was a great buy. CONS: Although you offer great warranties, the number of recalls bring stress/worry and takes unplanned time out of my busy schedule. PROS: Great gas mileage; great look; roomy; gets the inside cooled down or warmed up very quickly; small parts (light bulbs, etc) are easy to find, purchase and install without needing to pay someone labor for a 2 min fix. IMPROVEMENTS: Send multiple notices in regards to recalls (phone, mail, email); the most recent recall (ECM Update, Wiring Hardness) I found out about at the dealership during a routine oil change; and the Fuel Pipe issue, I found out online while doing a credit check through Credit Karma online.

I will definitely not opt for Turbos in Future

Personal experience - sonata 2.0T may be great vehicle for mileage but once issues start to show up, there are not lot of people out there who can identify and fix it even after six visits to the main dealership.

Not built for a tall person

The engineering of the seat factored in long legs but in order to reach the steering wheel you'd need the arms of an orangutan. As it is now I have to jam the seat forward so I can reach the wheel and now my knees are outside the leg compartment. The radio sounds horrible. It runs well and the ride is ok and gas mileage is good.

Too many recall works

My 1st car was also from Hyundai did not have any problems with the car but the 2013 sonata I bought had total of 4 recalls and almost died on the road because of the one of recall work was for the engine

Get what you pay for

At least it runs and drives. I have enjoyed driving it I just do not enjoy all the cheap components that keep breaking due to Hyundai’s attempt to cut costs. So the old saying you get what you pay for rings very true here. The styling is love it or hate it, but the always wondering what I will have to fix next is frustrating. Please Hyundai for the love of all that is holy please stop cutting corners with things like the bulb clips and sockets. Why must a bulb change also include a socket replacement due to melting of the socket from the heat of the bulb.

2013 Sonata

Will not charge my Iphone without a $40.00 charger because it has to has 2 separate ports, engine had to be replaced at 68,000 miles, clear coat is peeling off. I'm thinking of trading it off for a different brand.

Plastic Part in Starter

I really like my 2013 Sonata, it was my first new car. I have worked in the automotive field for 40 years and the Sonata has not given any problems at all until just the other day. I went out to leave and the starter had an issue and the car would not start. After checking online i was amazed to find out the the lever was the problem. The reason that the lever failed was because it is made out of plastic. Plastic, unbelievable. $322.00 to replace a piece of plastic that should never had been used in the starter. I would have been happy to spend 2 more dollars so that a metal lever could have been used. I'm not impressed to say the least that at 56,400 miles the a plastic lever put me out of commission.

2013 Sonata what happened?

I used to believe in Hyundai....until this car, my third. I have had so many recalls that it makes me wonder why the quality of workmanship has dropped so low. My experience with Hyundai of the past has also lost me a refund of an extended warranty that was purchased on this car and I assume, never filed. I paid the car off in 2015 and in the meantime the dealership I purchased it from closed. I was told the paperwork wasn’t filed for the warranty I paid for and basically I was out of luck for any refund. It would have been around 700.00. This is when I realized my loyalty to Hyundai ended. I called the warranty company, the loan company and Hyundai Corporate with no resolution. I guess as they say...buyer beware.

Sonota sorry but no

I just don’t think this car was given much attention other than the body. The engine needed to be replaced within 123k miles. There’s a click every time I turn which started at less than 100k miles. The stearing wheel buttons for radio and cruise control have gremlins and don’t always do what they’re supposed to I.e volume up means let’s turn the radio off and cruise on doesn’t turn on till after pushing button 10 x’s. Of and let’s not forget having to put the car in neutral in order to get the push button start to work. Only reason I don’t turn it back in, I don’t want a car payment. Your better off with buying another mid-size sedan

2013 Sonata

I like my 2007 better. This car doesen't have a hand brake and you can't mute the radio. Visibility and blind spots is not good. Hyundai should have memory seats and mirrors for drivers 1 and 2.

I purchased a 2004XG350 in January 2005. My 2013 is nowhere as comfortable to ride in as the XG350. I usually take the older car on road trips because the seats in the 2013 are not comfortable at all. Also the leather seats really are not done right they wrinkle or buldge if you can understand and I only have 12,000 miles on the car. Additionally I have yet to open the top of the car. I really feel I got talked into many upgrades that I never use by the fast talking sales persons in Cocoa Hyundai and into a lease and I called 2 or 3 days after signing and told them I wanted an out and out purchase not a lease and I was told I could not change my mind about the lease.
