Poor design but excellent ride

The design of the 2017 Hyundai Sonata is flawed. The front bumper and spoiler is too low for most curbs and parking restraints in America. Damage is inevitable and Hyundai does not stand behind this flaw. Yet the car gives excellent gas mileage and the ride is above average for the price of the car.

sonata

not very happy with my Hyundai, recently found out that my engine has the same possible problem as my 2014 sonata did. I was told that they used a diffrent engine on the 2017 models, but apparently that was not true.

Great vehicle... except for the paint

I purchased a Hyundai Sonata back in 2007. The vehicle ran great and is still running decent to this day. Only issue was that the paint began to come off not too many years after owning the vehicle. Fast forward to 2017, I purchased another Hyundai Sonata because of the great value (price of car for how well they run). At the time of purchase, I thought the paint issue would have been rectified over that 10 year span. Unfortunately, this is not the case. Less than 4 years into owning the Sonata, the entire roof of the car and parts of the hood had to be repainted because of how bad the paint was coming off. This ends up being an added cost I haven't been burdened with from my other vehicles a Toyota Highlander and Toyota Sienna. Bottom line, up front cost is much lower but additional work adds to total cost of vehicle.

Paint quality poor

Pearl White paint peeling. Is a known problem being ignored by Hyundai. The car performs well but wish I knew of paint issue before I bought it. Not what I expected when happens six months after 36 month Warranty time

2017 Hyundai Sonata Limited

Cheap factory paint job. Paint started peeling after 1year of having my vehicle, which was purchased practically new. Great features and car runs great otherwise. Issues with trunk latch. Unable to open my trunk. Found out there was a recall concerning the issue. Really disappointed in the paint job. Now I am forced to pay over $1,500 in order to correct the paint issue.

Service, performance and physical appearance

Oil light keeps coming on. I was told by my mechanic that the oil sensor is bad and it needs to be change. The paint on the front top of the car is chipped automatically. It was never hit. The paint job must have been substandard.

My 2017 Sonata

This car has been a good car for commuting. It has been good on MPG and ease of driving. I have had some paint peel problems (all covered & repaired), and my only complaint would be road noise is loud

Hyundai Sonata Best in Class

I recently bought a Hyundai Sonata Sport edition and my family and I are very pleased with the comfort level of the ride and the sporty sleek design it displays. I have always been an American made buyer but after taking the chance at buying import the Sonata I believe is the best in it's class and out performs other cars in the market.

2017 Sonata

Beautiful car, disappointing deal. The limitations of the lease apparently mean that we will be doing more appreciation of how the car looks parked than actually being able to enjoy driving it. Here in L.A., 10K miles per year (the annual mileage cap in the lease) will be used up just running local errands. No way will we be able to take the cross-country trips we were thinking about now that we are both retired. But it's my error for signing so quickly. My wife loves the automated adjustable seats and it continues to amaze how your 4 cyl. engine feels smoother than the big engines of yesteryear. And what fun the Bluetooth feature is! No more fumbling with a phone while I'm driving! I anticipate enjoying our 2017 more once I have gone back to work and will feel better about affording the extra expenses we will incur trying to keep the car perfect enough for the next 4 years to comply with the lease. I plan to be around long enough to purchase at least one more vehicle--next time I check my options out more carefully (Carmax; credit union financing, etc.). The vehicle itself, however, is hard not to LOVE.

Great practical vehicle.

Overall great value. Huge interior with the options you want. On par with competitors; all have strengths and weaknesses. Infotainment systems is engineered very well. Can certainly tell the difference in the drive modes, sport, normal, and eco (in a good way). Like the design overall as i like classic, simple designs that stand the test of time. Wish their was less chrome on the side profile (wish door handles matched the body paint color rather than being blingy in higher trim levels). Like interior design very much. Seats are very very firm and I like them a bit softer so have had a bit of difficulty finding a comfortable position. Those that like firm will love it. Would still likely have bought it again. Knowing what I do now. Good, practical vehicle.

Nice update to a classic open road car

The Sonata has for years been an excellent vehicle for those of us who do a lot of long distance driving. And the 2017 model is a good update - it keeps what makes it a good highway driver while adding some technology style bells and whistles.
