My Best Car Ever
The car is the 2017 Hyuandi Sport with the 2.4 L 4 cylinder. When the tire pressure is at the right level the ride comfort is excellent which is about 30#. This optioned model has the sun roof, better quality seats Including bun heaters which my wife adores and I hardly ever use. It drives great with just the right amount of power when it is needed. It stops with a smoothness that really impresses me. On snow and ice the ABS kicks in and keeps it straight where other vehicles slide one way of another. The transmission shifts so smoothly it seems to be a precision instrument instead of a device with "gears." Of course it has the back up camera which is a life saver when backing up just about anywhere. I do wish there was an option of a front "bumper" camera. Some parking spaces require you to pull all the way up against a wall or a railroad tie in order to keep the rear of the car from being tagged in the alley behind. Without magic vision damage appears on the front bumper fascia that just serves to make the car not new any more. The driver's seat has the electric adjustments and lumbar support that make it perfect for long drives. The passenger seat doesn't but it still sits really well. The temperature control needs constant adjustment as outside temperatures change. A more expensive model has a thermostat but it's another $8000. I think I can turn a knob quite often for $8000 but wouldn't it be great if they included a thermostat for different areas inside the vehicle at this trim level, at least one anyway. The fit and fitness of this car is quite good. The trim inside is perfect and the paint job is spectacular. This one is metallic gray which is beautiful but quite common among all of the manufacturers. I really wanted a red one but they had all been sold. A lady pulled up behind us one day in a parking lot to ask me how I liked mine. We told her we loved it and as she drove off with a smile I shouted at her how we really wanted a red one like hers. Anyway at 18,000 miles she still drives like new. The only real problem has been that at highway speeds there is some kind of "tang" in the steering system at just the point where the wheel needs to be to stay in my lane. I have to noticeably put ever increasing pressure on the wheel to get it past the "tang" or "bump" as I call it. Once over it it's just a moment or two before I have to go back. It's irritating but otherwise the car drives great. I originally had the "Eco" model with the turbo and it was just too fast. What should have been modest acceleration suddenly turned into neck snapping major g-forces. My wife didn't like it at all and the economy seats were fine for short trips but just wrong for long journeys. Thus at the first oil change I paid another $1000 to get this one. It was well worth it. Anyway this seems to be the perfect car for us, a retired couple that loves thousand mile long trips to see the sights of America. The mileage is reasonable at 29 average. The turbo model got 36 mpg on the average but I just couldn't trust the turbo. Too many friends and relatives have had them break and leave them stranded. The cost to repair was too much and it made an expensive car practically worthless. Of course its covered under the warranty but too many things tend to break within a few miles of the warranty expiration date, especially a turbo. The 2.4 model has all the power I need for passing and top speed with a perfect smoothness that reminds me to keep an eye on the speedometer. 90+ mph is way too easy and 100+ seems to be a real possibility simply because it drives too smooth and perfect. It simply doesn't let you know that you are going too fast until you are. Reminds me of V-8 models of the 1960s that gulped gas at an alarming rate because it was priced at a reasonable price of $.33.9 for years. Things have changed and the cars are better but much more expensive. The Sonata has the perfect rear seat where I quite often carry 3 adults. The trunk is the perfect size and the rear seats lean forward for carrying the occasional 2x4x8' board of lumber. For the price and the quality this car can't be beat. However this will probably be the last new car I ever buy. One reason for that is that with the proper maintenance this car may last longer than I do.
