2015 Tacoma purchased at Parker Toyota
I've now had my 2015 Tacoma 4X4 for about 19 months. I've never had a pickup before and was a little reluctant to let go of my Jeep Grand Cherokee...for the first week. But now that I've had it for a while, I love this truck. We got the double cab so our older relatives and friends could travel with us comfortably and we're all so delighted with the interior comfort, the sound system, the interior air filtration. Good visibility all the way around, plenty of power in the V6 engine
Things I would change
1. It would help so much if Toyota would build a step into the rear bumper as Chevy does. Yes, I have one of those step things that plugs into the receiver but it doesn't help when you're working on the corners. How much would it cost?
2. Every single day, I really miss my outside air temperature gauge, digital compass and fuel / mileage computer from my Jeep. I have all these great features and expensive braking system and but not a $25 retail digital thermometer?
3. Somehow the rotors got warped in the first two months I had the truck, so it has this shimmy when I brake. Two service manager told me this is normal, which I don't believe. Who would build something like that? Last week, a different service mgr told me a more believable story: that I warped them and can have them re-surfaced for $180. Now my question is: Why isn't this covered by my warranty or extended warranty (I only have 25K miles). How is it that in all the vehicles I've driven in the past 45 years, this has never happened and suddenly, it happens and it's my fault?
4. Voice command doesn't work consistently well. About half the time I say call (my wife's mobile), it doesn't recognize her name. The other half, it works great.
5. Skid plate - I hit a rock that punched a hole in my oil pan. My fault. Parker Toyota did a great job of fixing it quickly. I asked the accessories department about a skid plate and they told me not to buy it because it was too flimsy to protect the bottom of the truck. They told me I should loo online. I haven't found one and everyone tells me I should just have one custom-made. ?? I think: 1. Toyota should make a sturdier skid plate 2. Or Toyota should be able to point me to an external supplier with a skid plate that is sturdy enough.
6. Carpet: This is the absolute worst carpet in the world. Is it designed specifically to grab dirt and gravel and win it in a tug of war with the vacuum? Regular outdoor carpeting would be so much better.
7. Tailgate lock: People at the dealership tell me that the available tailgate lock is inadequate and that aftermarket tailgate locks also are "a waste of money" because they also are. What's up with this? The theft of tailgates in an increasing problem in urban areas. There should be at least one solution for this that pushes two rods from inside the tailgate into the side pieces of the rear, like deadbolts.
8. Fender storage: I've seen this on a couple of new trucks. What a great feature: using the hollow areas of the fender for storage by making the top of the storage a hinged cover like this: http://ow.ly/tHXk307ce7r Once other manufacturers adopt this, everyone will want it. Toyota should lead the trend in this so it's associated with Toyota trucks.
Other than these, I love my Tacoma!
