2012 Genesis

Other than a extremely expensive cruise control co outer module repair I experienced at 52, 000 miles I have considered my Genesis one of the best cars I have ever owned. This repair has driven up the cost of ownership ($3,000+) to where I must question buying another Genesis in the future. I feel Since Hyundai knows this is a issue they should back up this known failure outside of strict warranty time and mileage rules.

I love my Genesis!

I love, love, love my Genesis, but with all good comes some bad. I prefer front or all wheel drive vehicles. I can deal with the rear wheel drive. What I hate the most is that I cannot stream music. My 2012 does not have the component/gadget/software or whatever it is that allows streaming from your personal device. This car is way too luxurious to not have that one significant feature in today's world of technologically advanced vehicles. What were the designers thinking when they left that out? They need to come up with a work around, a recall, a FREE upgrade, or something. Even my Ford Taurus could stream music.

The car is great except the infotainment system. Have had it replaced several times but , still have problems. High pitch whine in radio, voice recognition doesn’t work very well. Complete shutdown requiring shutdown of engine and restart.

My 2012 Genesis.

My Genesis is the 5.0 R Spec. That's the V8 with 429 horsepower. Love that power. It comes loaded with all kinds of "Goodiies". On the downside; The Navigation display is useless on a sunny day. Sun glare makes the display invisible. Rear-Wheel drive in the snow is a "No-Go". Unless you've got a running start, even a moderate uphill is unpassable. Also in the snow, it's not possible to "Rock" yourself out, when snowed-in because you've got to hit the brakes when Shifting from forward to reverse and back. However, all-in-all, I love my Genesis.

Proud Genesis Owner

We've had our preowned Hyundai for a little over 2- years now. It's a luxury vehicle without the luxury price. Everyone always comments on how smooth it drives and how stylish it looks. We particularly liked this body style which is why we chose this year. The downside, like many cars these days is when something electrical fails. Definitely pay for the extended warranty as we have had to take it in a few times for major repairs which saved us thousands. Not sure if it's the quality of the car or regular wear and tear throughout the years. So far we're pleased.

Hyundai is almost there!

I am the original owner of my 2012 Genesis 3.8L, which currently has 65K miles. I've bought the Genesis because I wanted to have rear wheel driven car (for better handling), better quality and reliability (although this car may not be a good example!) The car has performed above average although it also has had its fair share of problems.

good car overall; small things annoy.

radio volume button "disintergrates" & a new one is $50??? Is that a "Rip" or what .Slight hesitation on accel that the techs can"t correct; Suggestion was an EXPENSIVE can of fuel injector cleaner which was BS & had no effect. Memory seat function has never really worked. Car is comfortable & drives well, but petty problems forego it from becoming a true luxury car.

ALMOST PERFECT

I had been a loyal Lexus driver for almost 20 years but decided to give the Genesis a try. I like the ride, and the 4.6 engine has plenty of power. The price for this car is great for the quality you get, but the world hasn't caught on yet to the long term quality and it's reflected in the secondary market pricing. I see the Genesis as a great price for the quality you get, but think it still needs a few refinements before I put it as an equal to the Lexus 430.

Genesis 5.0 2012

My generator went off after 65,000 miles, and the AC condenser at 70,000, lucky I had bought the extended warranty. Good handling and acceleration. Good mileage for a 5.0 V8 motor. Should make driver seat last longer and be made for wear. leather interior should be of better quality for a car of this price. Automatic mirror set up, always off spec, which is a hassle, sometimes it just moves on its own.

Bad 02 sensor

Check engine light on 2012 Genesis, which was bad 02 sensor. Was disappointed to hear 02 sensor is not covered by extended 8 yr./80,000 mile emissions factory warranty. Dealership found a way to handle it to my satisfaction, which was not expected.

Genesis ..more bang for the buck

I purchased this 2012 Genesis w/31K miles in 2015 and given all of its features I thought that was a very good deal.24K miles later I still feel that way. I often recommend this vehicle to others as a good deal in its class.

Great Vehicle with Great Features

I love my Genesis sedan. The features and amenities are great. The only downside has been several functions that have prematurely failed or malfunctioned. At 32k miles the brakes and rotors had to be replaced. Hyundai was great to perform this replacement under warranty. At 75k miles the backup camera has failed and is non-operational. This seems to be premature for this type of equipment failure.

while I was waiting for my car for service, I was walking a round, was approached by salesman, wanting me to look at a 2018 G something? very nice, but I just love my car. Maybe in a few years, I will be ready to buy again, for now I love my car!!!

Very good automobile. However, the navigation system has be sporadic - sometimes it works and sometimes it does not. I will not take it to any local Hyundai dealers to be repaired because they do not seem to know what they are doing.

Love those horses, all 429 of them.

My big V8 is a blast! It makes up for the following "crabs"; GPS display is often washed-out on a sunny day. (Unusable) Must hold up a hat or something to shade the display, to see it. You can guess how safe that is. When riding downhill with Cruise-Control engaged, it applies the brakes to prevent picking-up speed. That causes excessive break wear and decreased mileage. Must disengage at hilltop & re-engage at the bottom. My Buick Park Avenues didn't do that. T Occasionally find the rear seat temp. control (between the front seats) up in the "Hot" position. Don't know how it happens. I seldom have rear seat passengers. But it's very annoying in the summertime.

Great Vehicle

I absolutely love my car. I however don’t like the known transmission problem with it. If they could get the transmission problem corrected, this car would be excellent. I also believe the original 10/100,000 warranty should be transferable. The car is makes a statement and no one knows what it is. Get a handle on the transmission issue, and you’ve got yourself a masterpiece!
