We really love our IONIQ 5. The ride is so nice, acceleration is awesome. It’s gorgeous outside and inside. What’s not to like.

Best Car I have Ever Had

This car is fast, maneuverable, comfortable, spacious, and very easy to drive. It was -- by far -- the best and most fun car to drive that I have ever had the pleasure of driving. Super quick acceleration made me feel safe in all situations and braking was fast and sure. The ride is firm, and I love that. It was very easy to clean and remained looking brand new easily throughout the 2-year lease period. I wish I was staying in the US and I would have leased or purchased another one.

Awesome vehicle!

Ionic 5 feels heavier, but is much faster. Extremely fast excelleration and looks slick. Plenty of room in the back especially when the back seat is folded down.

Amazing. Smooth, quiet, & great acceleration - but also a few quirks

Amazing car. Smooth, very quiet, great mileage, and excellent acceleration. Great for trips. But there are a few quirks as well. I love my Ioniq 5 (I think it is the best all-around EV out there) but after driving it for 2 years now, I have found that there are some opportunities for improvement. First, there needs to be better backseat air flow. Independent controls would be ideal, but at a minimum, more air vents are needed. Second, although I-Pedal gives me the single-foot driving ability, it could be stronger. Sometimes, it takes too long to slow down, even when the i-Pedal setting is on.

Great vehicle with some problems

I have had the Ioniq 5 since December of 2024. It has great acceleration. It is comfortable. It has a very useful navigation system. The battery appears to be very healthy at 16,000 miles. Very good range and great DC fast charging rate.

best vehicle with a few minor flawa

We love the car and all the electronics. a few minor details to make it even better. A rear window windshield washer. the back seats are difficult to fold down and back up. Would be nice if they were spring loaded like our outback, pull a lever and they flop down. The rear camera will not let me back up when I have a trailer attached. Should be a trailer attached mode. The only way to back is turn off cameras.

Mostly we like our Ioniq 5, however, the rear roof line truncates our storage capacity, the range should be more like 470 vs 270 and it's rather expensive to buy the car outright.

Great car, fun to drive and great design - with one (or two) flaws

We've truly enjoyed our Hyundai IONIQ5. It's been fun to drive, we get lots of compliments and it is surprisingly spacious for passengers. It is fast, zippy and has lots of great technology. The only issue is that we've experienced the ICCU failure message months after the ICCU recall repair - as we were exiting a freeway one day, which was scary/concerning - but thankfully not an actual ICCU failure like some have had. The frustration was that we took the car to the dealer the next day only for them to tell us they could not recreate the issue so there is nothing they can do... We also had the 12V die on us and it could have been replaced by the dealer but we were stranded when the battery decided to die out on us so we purchased a 12V AGM battery for better reliability - so far has been great. However, unless Hyundai fixes these two MAJOR issues that seem to impact many of their EV's, they won't be able to compete against other EV's that don't have such major flaws. We've had not issues since the two events above and have driven the car almost 50K miles already. So, we still recommend it and truly enjoy the car!

Fun and comfortable to drive

I love the power of this car. The rapid acceleration feels safe if I need to merge or pass another vehicle. The regenerative braking levels are great and I enjoy having the option to change them as needed based on traffic conditions. The seats are comfortable and it’s just generally a fun car to drive! Plus I love electric, charging is easy at home and on the road now that Tesla Superchargers are available to non-teslas. There are a few negatives about the car, but nothing that would prevent me from purchasing again in the future. The turn radius feels quite wide - I’ve had a hard time parking in tight spots in parking garages. The sound system is truly lacking. It can be somehow too loud and yet feel like I can’t hear the music at all. I have tried adjusting the equalizer to some improvement but the stock speakers in my 2016 Kia Soul were much better than these speakers. Another issue is the driver visor hits me in the face when I flip it to the window so I have to duck my head out of the way when I need to move it. Also the app is terrible, and the infotainment center in general is difficult to use. But the car itself is wonderful!

Poor build quality

Came with lost of issues. Ambient lights wouldn't turn off and it took 2+ months for the dealer to figure it out. Driver side door doesn't open with touch of a finger on the door handle.

The leasing agreement was great at the time I entered it with free membership to Electrify America. I enjoyed all the features like the heads up display and the radar cruise control system. The less I have to drive and can get assistance from the car the better. I wasn’t comfortable with the lane control assistance. It seemed to get too close to the lane lines, so I always turned it off when the road wasn’t straight. Listening to music was very nice with how quiet the car drove. The experience with service at Planet was marred by after my annual service I had a sensor error message that wasn’t an issue before I brought it in. I asked them to fix it without cost to me but they wouldn’t agree to do that. That and getting an error message concerning the ICCU which turned out to be a false alarm were the only negative things I experienced with the car. Overall I loved driving this car.

Well-rounded, could do better with final touches

I won't waste anyone's time - so this review will be provided in bullet point format Here's what I loved about the car: - Acceleration. I had the RWD and it was still fast - Heated seats/wheel. Useful to avoid turning on heater - CarPlay. I will never buy a car without this - Driving Range. I could make long trips without too much worry. - Charging speed. Though wasn't like fueling up a combustion car, I could stop for a meal and my car would be charged from 10% - 90% at the end of the meal - Center console. I liked this unique split and storage space. It made the front feel quite spacious Decent, but could improve: - Brake pedal feel. I was never able to master an absolutely smooth stop - I needed to use I-Pedal mode. There was always a single abrupt lurch at the end - HVAC buttons. Though capacitive touch buttons are better than on-screen controls, I cannot touch-type these buttons. Physically clicking buttons will always be preferred. - Accelerator lag in I-Pedal mode. There is a delay in power delivery when I press the acelerator pedal while the vehicle is actively in regenerative deceleration. This gap is probably about 0.5 sec - enough to notice and make me feel like the pedal is broken. - CarPlay - make it wireless! Hate: - Regen paddles. It am ALWAYS annoyed that I cannot brake and increase regen levels at the same time. Even if I've lightly tapped the brake pedal... - Proximity lock. When I walk away from the car, please automatically lock! In an unrelated note: I am continually living in fear of ICCU failures. Many online influencers have encountered these and have had a terrible experience getting their vehicle serviced. One of my coworkers had to replace their 12V battery with a AGM battery. Please do something to ameliorate the situation: - Improve service appointment availablility, turnaround time - Publically address the failure (why ICCU failures happens & what you did to fix it) As you can see, it's a fairly great car. The list of pros is huge compared to the mehs/cons.
