2011 Sonata

Vehicle was just O.K., but due to interior surface finishes wearing, large volume of vehicle recalls, and various repairs that seemed to be required sooner than one would anticipate, gave the vehicle below average rating. Vehicle handling and engine power performance was adequate. Seats set extremely low off the floor boards.

Please do not make a Hyundai sonata your first selection of a car

My car was purchased 2014 from the time I have bought this car I have been having nothing but problems from small to medium to large problems. Nothing on a Hyundai Sonata is cheap to fix. The cars does not hold a value.

2011 Sonata

Bought new in 2010. Loved body style and still do. Changed oil and filter every 3 to 5 K miles. Despite that have had excessive oil consumption since 80k miles. Question quality of the engine. Probably would not repurchase a Hyundai at this time.

Broke all the time

I would not lease or buy the sonata . Mine is always having issues and the bumper is coming off but it's not covered? I thought it was a Bumper to Bumper warranty? There is a reason it's a 10yr 100k warranty! It's in the shop more than my driveway !

I received in the mail about a recall on my 2011 Sonata. It pretty much burns oil almost a quart every 1000 miles. Since it does not burn over a quart every 1000 miles, Hyundia will not fix the burning. This is normal wear and tear on the engine. If you want to keep on putting oil in the engine every 1000 miles, this car is for you.

Car review

This car has had a troubled history. It just turned 41, and it is on its third set of tires. I was afraid to drive it until one of your mechanics finally discovered and fixed a problem that made the steering seem loose and seemed to prematurely wear out tires. It was a recall problem having to do with a part in the steering column, but the symptoms were such that it felt like the whole suspension system was shaky. Too bad the cause of the problem was not discovered when I first reported the symptoms before I began fearing to drive the car at all. One other problem is that the Sonata has such a high trunk that I can't see the kids I run over when I back up. It is also noisy at >60 MPH.

Recalls after recalls

I bought the 2011 Hyundai Sonata from a private party and within 2-3 weeks of driving, the engine died while the car was being driven on the road. The previous owner had kept the vehicle in a very good condition. Aside from the high mileage from being driven out of state during the winter, there were no odd noises during the test drive prior to buying. After the engine died, I did some research on the vehicle online and found that the 2011 Sonata had a lot of recalls and complaints from owners about engine problems amongst other things. It's listed as the 3rd worst vehicle on carcomplaints.com. Thankfully the extended warranty on the engine Hyundai had put out helped cover my vehicle. Although the vehicle looks amazing cosmetically and is comfortable to sit in, I still feel like something will go wrong while driving. I don't know if the other Hyundai models have the same problems but as for the 2011 Sonata, I wouldn't recommend this vehicle.

2011 Sonata

I have owned Hyundais since 2003. the first was a Santa Fe. I had no trouble with it. The Sonata is another story. I have had nothing but problems. Between the engine failing and having to be replaced as well as the numerous recalls as well as it being poorly made we probably would not buy another one.

Most trouble free car I have ever owned

I have had very few service issues with this car and most have been covered by warranty. I have usually kept cars for no longer than three years so the fact that I’ve had this one for almost 7 years should say something.

Vehicle has had way too many recalls for my taste. Never had a vehicle with this many recalls. Won’t look at this brand next time . Vehicle is fuel efficient and looks good. Not enough power however. Going back to Honda

I wouldn't buy a Hyundai again

There have been WAY too many issues and recalls on this car for my liking, the most recent being the installation of a new engine due to a defect in the manufacturing. I have also had to replace a starter because of a defective part. DO YOUR HOMEWORK before you buy one of these!!

Hyundai Sonata 2011

1 of the issues that I had experienced was spooky and the technicians and lead tech Johnny was not abe to duplicate the issue my car had the other day. The issue that I'd experience was when I was driving and my car break engaged itself ON ITS OWN 3 times @ speeds of 45-50 mph. After that 3rd abrupt jolt I'd pulled over and gotten the car towed to the dealership.

Numerous repairs

the car was in for repairs (all under warranty) numerous times. In 2014 (Jan 20-Feb 20) the car was in the shop because it would not start and the mechanic could not find out the reason, a mechanic/engineer was flown in and found the problem. Since 2016 minimum repairs, they seem to have the bugs fixed. Most of the repairs were little things like key fob quit, antenna quit, short in brake light, et al ad infinitum. This is my 9th Hyundai/Kia and I know it is my worst Hyundai. I am getting a Santa Fe diesel or a Sorrento (if they go diesel) next and hope it is put together better than this hybrid. The total spreadsheet mileage is 50734.2 Gallons used 1981.174 Miles per gallon 25.60814951. Hyundai gave me a $1221.36 check five months after I got the car, this was because they knew the mileage was not up to the level advertised. I like the car now that it is fixed but the first 4 years were difficult, I always got a loaner car from the dealer when the car was in for service.

Always something wrong

Something is always on recall. Wished I had researched more about this car before I bought it. Always research your car before purchasing. Can’t wait till my loan is all paid up so I can get rid of it.

Car sucks

This car has had so many issues since I bought it pre-owned in 2014. Tons of recalls and things just not working as intended. Probably one of the worst cars I’ve ever owned. I would never recommend a Hyundai to anyone

Biggest piece of turd car

I've never known a vehicle to have so many recalls on it, and so many issues that should have had recalls that either didn't, or they were delayed so I had to pay up front. I thought the long warranty was going to be great, but 1- I think it might just signal they put junk pieces on the car to start with, and 2- oh wait... most of that isn't under the powertrain warranty anyways. Everything else that has problems all breaks down after the bumper-to-bumper warranty.

My Sonata

Unfortunately, 2011 was not a good year for the Hyundai Sonata. Fortunately I have found Atlantic Hyundai, with exceptional staff and service representatives, who will now be taking care of my Sonata. I have spoken to owners of later models who have been totally satisfied with their vehicles.

Key recognition failure

Within the past two years of ownership the key recognition has become sporadic. It fails to recognize the key. You have to get out of the car with the key fob walk away come back and hope it starts. if it does not then you have to put the key in the door lock and unlock put your file back together and hope it starts. I've done my research and a lot of owners complain of the same issue and that the dealer has not been able to rectify the situation. It took me 30 minutes the other night to get this car to start. I have learned it's a brake sensor problem. They should think about doing a recall to fix this issue. That is my only complaint about this car. I gave it 2 stars because of the key fob issue described above.

Not what I expected

I am pretty confused about this car. The first month i owned it it was taken out of service for a week to replace the brake line. (Car 2 years old at the time with 18,000 miles) warranty did cover. Multiple recalls over the years on seatbelts, airbag, stop switch, and others. The first year I owned it I kept taking it in for some type of engine issues and they could never find anything. A year and half ago the car had to have the engine replaced (covered under warranty ) and the problem went away. I have had this car In the shop more than any other car I've owned. Very inconvenient. I bought it pre owned so maybe it was "ragged out" for the first 2 years as a lease , not sure. The front end is too low to the ground and got caught on a curb first month I owned it and pulled it loose. The transmission seems to "slip" every once in a while and there is nothing I am aware of that indicates when it will happen. Overall I like the appearance of the car. It is sturdy. Road noise seems loud, however when I used the elantra model as a loaner it was way worse than mine. It has good pick up and can get to a high speed fairly fast especially nice for getting on to highways.
