Fair Vehicle

Overall a fair vehicle. Manufacturer's maintenance schedule was designed by a sadist. Navigation system is much worse than my $350 Garmin system that is great. Hyundai navigation system has no learning ability and is totally obtuse. It won't even calculate an arrival time! Route selection appears to performed by the 'three blind mice!' Hyundai web site requires owner to enter dealer performed maintenance rather than flow performed items from dealer's computer to owner's vehicle page. (Dealer knows best what was actually done to the vehicle, and this would only take Hyundai national about three lines of programming!) Hyundai national customer service is the pits! Every suggestion to help them improve their product is met with resistance rather than welcomed. (Please employ some competent people!!) System keeps reminding me of service recalls which have already been performed and reported complete without stating of WHICH recall I am reminded. I then have to spend a great deal of effort to find out which recall I need to have done only to find out it was done and reported complete MONTHS AGO! Reported mileage in monthly report is about 20,000 miles behind (over 4.5 years of ownership) and owner cannot adjust the report or update the mileage. From a maintenance and information stand point this vehicle is a constant aggravation! Hyundai Corporation should be ashamed! This is written by an engineer and process improvement consultant.

2012 Hyundai Sonata

I've had to have the engine replaced after it blew up (recall but I didn't know about it), and then had a clicking in the steering shaft. Later got a letter stating that was a warranty issue. Just had that repaired. Other than that, it's a good car. It's a 2.0 Turbo. That I like. But I'm severely disappointed in the quality of this car. I've had three Hyundai's, with no problems with the other two. Sad about this one. Makes me not want another Hyundai. And I was a lover of Hyundai before this.

The car was great; until the transmission broke and the battery converter broke as well. It was only a 2013 and pretty new.

Always has something wrong with it, check engine light comes on alot It drives nice , worth 11 thousand but not penny more. I like my vehicle if it didn't blow engine .and my tires would of been 40thousand miles like they said they be ,

Hyundai Sonata 2012

I purchased my 2012 Hyundai Sonata new. It drove beautifully for about 3 1/2 years. Then my engine had a recall. It took over a year to convince Hyundai that the engine needed to be replaced. After my engine died, Hyundai replaced the engine. The 2012 Sonata has had; an engine recall, ball bearing rod recall, steering column recall, two seatbelt recalls, and the airbag recall. The steering wheel material peeled off as well. I purchased the 2012 Sonata because it is a beautiful looking car and it was highly rated by consumer reports. Now, I am in a position where I have an automobile that I do not want, but I cannot afford to purchase another vehicle and this one is not really a good bet for a trade in. The car has cost me more money and aggravation than any Toyota or Honda I've ever driven.

Too many recalls!

I bought this car used (2 yrs old and 40,000 miles) and initially loved it. However, soon the notices started coming in for recalls. I have had at least 6 recalls, resulting in 3 trips to the dealership for repairs. I never owned a foreign car before and now I know why. In addition, the microphone for the hands free has never worked.

Great car until for first 5 years then been a lot of repairs

Good value, design and good car for 5 years but the the workmanship on the engine not so much. Engine and starter have went out. Even though I was fortunate to be covered under warranty I have been out of a vehicle for a total of 7 weeks in the past year and was unable to be reimbursed for tow fees and expenses incurred for vehicle breaking down out of town

Good basic vehicle, would NOT buy navigation system again.

Hyundai 2.0T Limited is a good basic vehicle, however I would not pay the extra money for the navigation system again. I have a $350 Garmin with lifetime maps that is more accurate and LEARNS! After I drive a shorter route three times with the Garmin the Garmin remembers the shorter route. The Hyundai system does not learn!! Maybe it does not have all the local roads in its map inventory! There is so much that Hyundai could do to make the owner experience much more pleasurable. E.G.: Update fixed recalls in its system rather than sending reminders for many months after the work has been done; allowing the owner to update the vehicle mileage on-line so appropriate maintenance reminders are sent; up loading dealership performed maintenance directly to your VIN on-line to prevent trying to decipher maintenance codes from the receipt to the generic wording of the on-line template (is that the engine air filter or the cabin air filter?), etc. Most bizarre maintenance schedule I have ever seen!

Do research

I have a 2012 Sonata and with in the last 3 or 4 years of having this vehicle I have had numerous issues. I have had to get the engine replaced, which they pay for thank God. I have also had electrical issues with the lights and acceleration issues because of a wastegate actuator issues, which both should have been recalls because these are know issues with many customers.

Lemon

It took a long time for me to consider buying a car. I did research online, purchased consumer report magazine and opted for Hyundai Sonata. It has had in my opinion too many recalls. Hyundai has taken care of the issues. However at 50 years of age this is my first brand new car. All the recalls make me feel that as soon as the warranty expires my car will expire with it.??

LOVED IT until they couldn't repair it

I have loved my Sonata but recently had taken it in for service for a problem starting the car and a shudder in the engine. I'm not sure the two are related problems. The tech heard the issues but could not repair it and Hyundai (the manufacturer!!!) could not help either. My $26,000.00 disposable Hyundai. Not going to get much trade in due to the problem and nobody at Hyundai knows what to do. So not sure what to do with it. Throw it away? Donate it? It is a 2012!!!

Paint issues

The car has run well but it looks awful. The paint is peeling off the hood and roof and Hyundai has offered no remedy. The car is six years old and I was told at the service center that I must have driven through gravel that was tossed and caused the paint to peel! I have never had this issue with any other car I’ve owned, none of which were a Hyundai . I’ve also seen other Hyundai cars in my area with the same issue. This is my first and last Hyundai.

Ok

Car has a lazy throttle response. Passenger seat is too low. So are the back seats. Hybrid drive system failed at 59,900 miles. Almost wasn't covered by warranty. Makes weird noises under throttle. Bluetooth connection is really really slow. Takes a minute and a half to connect to my phone.

Everything under the hood is triple the price

The car is definitely amazing as far as looks and gas mileage. When it breaks down that's a whole different story. I just spent $1,590 on a electric water pump because one out of the four water pumps it has, cracked. Instead of having one radiator it has two, same thing with the battery, same thing with the belts. The parts are all very pricey and unless you make about $70,000 a year, don't get this car!!
