My Dependable Huyndai Sonata Hybrid
I inherited this car from a daughter who needed more seating for her family. At first I wasn't elated about it. I really wanted a larger vehicle. But the Sonata Hybrid has a way of endearing itself. The ride is very comfortable, especially with the lumbar control adjustment and the heated seats. Very helpful for low back pain! The leather interior is easy to clean. Back seats are roomy and the way the seats are arranged in front it gives the vehicle a more open feel than I have often experienced in other mid-size cars. We had special floor mats installed that perfectly fit the contours and this not only makes the floor easy to clean, it protects the carpet from stains and spills. It still amazes me how quiet the engine is when starting the car. Other family members have said they can't even tell the car has been started. I use my opportunities on the highway to benefit from the electric/battery mode of operation. Whenever I see that blue light I know I am saving money. We did have one serious mishap on a long distance trip. For some reason one of the cylinders blew in the engine and we were stranded. It was very upsetting. We called the closest Hyundai dealer and within a short time my vehicle was towed to the dealership. We were driven to a nice local hotel. This was a major repair requiring replacement of the entire engine. We were provided a rental car to drive home. The service manager kept in touch with us concerning the progress. Some of the parts took longer to arrive. We continued to use a rental car at home. I was concerned about the expense of the hotel, food on the road, and car rental. Our home was six hours from the dealership. Our service manager spoke with the regional Hyundai representative who assured him our out of pocket costs would be covered. The repair gave us a new engine with only the $100 deductible. And true to his word, our expenses were reimbursed. I am very grateful to the fine folks at Hyundai for their support and assistance during this difficult time.
Back inside the car I appreciate the generous storage space in the console for gloves, glasses, etc. The control panel provides several features on gas and battery economy, miles remaining, distance traveled by trip ,etc. The radio audio is fine with CD capability. The trunk is roomy even with the addition of the row of batteries that power the electronic power mode. The vehicle switches from gas to battery without any instructions from me. My vehicle is a 2012. Other than a few scratches from my grandson on a scooter, the finish is still bright and shiny. I often receive comments on my Sonata. People will ask where I got this "classy" car and how much was it. A couple of friends one day said it must be nice to be able to afford such a nice luxury car. The Sonata is a classic in styling that doesn't lose anything with the passage of years. This has been my first experience with Hyundai and one of its products. I have been very pleased and will likely consider Hyundai again for my next vehicle. Thanks for the opportunity to share comments.
