Promises, Promises, Promises

It's basically a good car. It used to run very quietly, but not anymore. I have had several recalls for different things, which is a pain in the but. It is a good looking car though but the mechanics leave a lot to be desired (I always hear some unexplained noise/sound from time to time...some clicking or some other sound I don't expect to hear while I'm driving). And of course the car does not get the gas mileage I was promised and that is annoying. There are plenty of things I like about the car. I like the body style, the fact that it is a hybrid, the size of the interior and the size of the trunk, the blue tooth technology {impressive}, and I like the way it rides on the highway. I find it to be more of a highway car than a city vehicle, and I live in an urban environment. I probably will not buy another one though. But my next car will be a hybrid or 100% electric.

calls won't stop

Car is ok, no major issues, bur Hyundai reps call me multiple times every day to sell me an extended warranty. I am on the national do not call list and I politely ask each rep to remove me from his or her list, to no avail. For this reason I do not intend to ever buy another Hyundai.

Tail lights keep burning out

Overall the Hyundai Sonata 2012 is good but seems to have issues with the transmission it is sluggish and I constantly have to put premium gasoline in it to get Optimum performance when I started it would take regular gasoline

Not my 2004 Sonata

Had a 2004 and it was great! bought the 2012, looked nicer but issue after issue. Most were covered under warranty, (engine, airbag, etc etc) maybe 6 or 7 recalls all together. Car sits too low, hard to see, hard to reach at drive through windows, bank, fast food etc. Hard to get out of, drive seat ripped, got a new one under warranty new one is ripped out of warranty. 2004 was much better. Car never ran right till they replaced the engine!

It’s a little sluggish and the paint job is not that good on the car it is piling off on the trim on top of the car and the front emblem and the leather seats don’t hold up ...

Good car; Hyundai national poor

2012 Hyundai Sonata 2.0T: good vehicle; maintenance schedule designed by Hyundai is inane; navigation system ($3,000) is idiotic, my $350 Garmin with lifetime maps beats it hands down; Hyundai national does not listen; nor do they appear to be concerned about customer satisfaction!

Great car if we would not have had electrical issues

From the time that we drove the new 2012 Sonata off of the lot we had issues where it continued to have intermediate non starting issues. It seems to be some sort of bug in the security system were the lights would start flashing but the car would not start. We have had to pay for towing bills and service calls; where they could not find the cause of the problem. Now after speaking with an independent mechanic; who said the issue is most likely cause by either the security system or where the auto start system was installed before we purchased it new off of the lot. I did not mention that we have had to replace 6 head lights from where something was shorting out the lights. I was told this week that they with the help of the independent mechanic they agree with his assessment and it will cost me about another $300 to go in and do a final fix. After all of the tow bills, head lights we have replaced, and the times it has cased us to take off of work and school that they should show a good will jester to the final fix the problem. This was the 5th new Hyundai car that we have purchased. However due to all of our issues with this car (that has been such a lemon) we took Hyundai off our list and purchased a Toyota Camry this fall. I purchased 2 Hyundai's in 2007 but about 3 months ago felt that the issues of the Hyundai no longer made it a good choice to purchase.

2012 Sanata

This model Sanata does not respond to bumps in the Road very well. My Sanata is only 5 years old and the driver seat has slumped to the ground, and there is only 11k miles on the car. Though the brakes are suspect, thanks goodness they haven’t failed.,,,,'

Lots of recalls

I am on the fence about my Hyundai Sonata. It has had a lot of recalls which have been repaired by the dealer at no charge. Thankfully, the warranty was extended which took care of the repair to replace the computer in my car just last week. Otherwise, it would have cost $1013!! Five months prior in July 2017, my starter went out. I barely missed the warranty and that was almost $700. I used to own an Acura TL before my Sonota, and I think I have spent more money on the Sonata than my Acura. The front end of the car is designed too low and always scrapes driveways and the blocked curbs at parking lots.

Good value

Mechanically, my Sonata has been great. I make sure i do the basic maintenance regularly. However, I have not enjoyed the driving experience. My 2012 sits way too low. If the sun is facing me, the visors don't block it because the seats are so low to the ground. The car tends to be lout when running. Also my antenna cover came off. Radio works though but they don't sell the cover alone. Have to buy a whole new antenna for over $500!! Unfair to customers, Hyundai !!

I get great gas mileage. But less than impressed with the power. There is some road noise but not terrible. I am not a car person and looking to replace it after having it a year. Multiple recalls.

There were number of recalls on this model, which concerns me. Likewise, some major repairs made, which should have not been that early (for a 2012 model). Though, after all the fixes done by Hyundai, the vehicle is performing okay so far.

Always wanted a Sonata...but since I own one now....my complaints ..rough ride...lots of road noise on long trips...I should have tested it on interstate..but too late now...otherwise...its a sharp looking car..cleans up well...and its paid for....makes it drive way better!!

Hyundai Sonata Hybrid Review

The Hyundai Sonata Hybrid is a good car. My concerns with the car are over a recent and reported in past transmission issue. This transmission issue is not unique to Hyundai many other automakers, who manufacture hybrids, have experienced problems with the transmissions in hybrids. Love the Hyundai's and how they are made today however even though Hyundai fixed my transmission and did right by me, that point remains a concern in getting the hybrid. By all means go out and get a Hyundai Sonata.
