Great fuel economy until service recall of shifter lever cable lever; electrical issues with CD Player & Radio and the power outlet
Until the service recall of the shifter lever cable on 09/05/14 our Sonata had highway gas mileage of 36-41 mpg and around-town of 29-35 mpg. Since the service it is 27-28 mpg no matter how or where we drive. The first few months after purchasing the car we had problems with repeated blown fuses for the power outlet. Last summer and since, we have ocassionally noticed a burnt electrical wire smell coming from the dash area, which we reported to the dealer. The last few months the radio will come-on by itself when traveling a bumpy road and emit a weird s-h-s-h-s-h-s-h-s-h sound, like it has a stuck CD (but does not). The dealer now claims the CD Player & Radio has a short, which is not covered for repair beyond two years or 36 thousand miles. The dealer advised the CD Player & Radio will cost $1,200.00 to replace. The car rides, handles and performs excellent, except for the foregoing defects.
