2014 Hyundai Sonata 2.0T Review. Meh.
Very average. If there were a half-star increment rating option, it would receive a 2.5 rating across the board - that is precisely where the 2014 Hyundai Sonata SE 2.0T lands on the rating scale. Nothing at all stands out as either superior or about the 2014 Hyundai Sonata SE 2.0T except maybe its styling, but even that is subjective and a matter of personal opinion. That aside, it is a decent car with a couple minor but very noticeable flaws, the most frustrating of which is the engine surging on gentle to moderate acceleration from stop or rolling start through the first 2-3 gears. Happens cold, warm or hot, ECO mode or not, 'manual' shift mode or not. The only consistent remedy for this inherent and extremely annoying surging is very aggressive acceleration - which is not of course always practical and can be potentially very dangerous, but of course is always fun - especially if you like to spin the front tires which it'll readily do when the little turbo spools up (yeah, a little lag but what do you expect - it's a Hyundai...). Sigh.
