Reliability, Expensive Service, Average Safety

The Sonata is an inexpensive car with good reliability. The total cost of ownership is higher than expected due to the expensive service costs and the fuel consumption. The seats are not very comfortable for above average built persons, especially on long distance trips. Service is expensive compared to other similar brands. No collection or delivery service possible for service. During a roll-over the safety performance is average or less.

After 60,000 miles car seems to start falling apart, squeaks and looseness in front end.

Based on quality not certain if I’d buy another one. The interior is not durable and the plastic parts and seats very easy to become damaged . The front end is not tight, has never been since purchased.

When it runs Great, but challenging

When my Hyundai Sonata runs, I absolutely love the car, but there always seems to be "issues". For example, I have had the front brak pads changed twice, rotated and the brakes still do not work as they did a few months ago. Hyundai service techs take it for a test drive and tell me there is nothing wrong witj them. I disagree! My Sonata is basically my "Mobile Office". Typically I average 2,200 city driving miles per month. So, when someone tells me there is nothing wrong with my brakes from just a "routine" test drive, versus the person who travels as much as I do in the vehicle, "I tend to take that VERY PERSONALLY!" NOT once has a Tech ever asked me to yake them on a test drive, with the goal to reproduce the scenario.

Sonata review

Overall the car is nice. Gets good mileage on the highway. Comfort is nice. Lots of trunk space for midsized car. Not as solid as higher end cars. Have not had any major issues yet and if I do I will find out how well they treat me.

I KEEP HAVING SAME PROBLEMS AFTER 50000 MILES

THE RUNS VERY GOOD STILL 50000 MILES AND ALL PROBLEMS WILL START , THIS IS PROBERLY MY LAST CAR FROM YOU GUYS. DUE TO SAME OLD PROBLEMS WITH LIGHTS ,TUNE UP BEFORE 100000 MILES AND ON AND ON .I REALLY DO HAVE TO MUCH GOOD THINGS TO SAY ABOUT THIS CAR .

Sonata 2014

This car has some issues concerning the light bulbs. It keeps blowing up the light bulbs almost every two weeks especially the break light. Also, it is not fuel efficient car. I regret buying this car. I had no issues with previous sonata 2012 but this car is terrible.

Great looking car

Car has a great look,good design. I don,t find enough comfort because of the seating. I find that I can,t relax my neck because my head is to forward and I can,t maneuver the headrest for comfort. Passenger seat is much to low. Driver side seat does not give consideration to short people. Acceleration much to noisy.

Hyundai Sonata

It is a 2014 that I bought used with 60,000 miles. It now has 109,000 miles. It is an OK car, but my previous car was a Honda Accord. I think the Accord was a more solid car and needed less repair. It's not a bad car, but the Honda was better.

I like it, but beware of unresolved problems

Mine has had a few recalls, but there is a problem with the axles. They evidently need to be replaced every 48,000 miles and cost $1200. Mine is a 2014 and is too noisy a problem that may have been solved in 2020.

Disapointing purchase.

Not impressed with vehicle. I have talked to other owners and they agree that comfort is not there. Hyundai needs to try harder on comfort. I have also had problems with air condition this and last year. I drove a1992 Cavalier for 22 yrs. no air conditioner problem.

Sonata

We enjoy your car. 2 problems we do have though is the blind spot on the passenger side of the car. My wife is 5'2" and when she is driving she has to study whether the coast is clear due to the wide column between the windshield and side view mirror. Also the passenger seat on our 2014 Sonata is so low for her that she has to sit on a pillow to see out of the windshield. These problems would probably exclude the Sonata from our future purchases unless these problems are rectified.

Front axle replaced at 7500 miles is unusual. Front sway bars end links replaced and Left front outer tie rod replaced at 90000 is also unusual MAJOR COMPLAIN IS: Looking at the outside temp and time of day is almost impossible during a sunny day

Disappointed

This is my second Hyundai Sonata after loving the first one so much so purchased another. This 2014 has been in service at least 10 times or more with many recalls and repairs. The engine does not run smooth like my first one and it went through a long history of wanting to cut off and once died in a 5 point intersection where i was afraid i would get killed. It did crank back up and i was able to move out of intersection but it was very stressful and a close call. That started a mess with dealerships denying anything wrong until finally recalls started coming out about engine problems. I will not buy another one even though these cars have the smoothest ride ever and are so comfortable on trips and when running correctly a joy to drive. I have lost work time with service and recalls and been so frustrated with lack of satisfaction to have issues corrected. On one service recall the dealership backed into my passenger door and it was a nightmare getting it repaired to be somewhat acceptable but there is still road noise that it did not have before the repair. The original repair was a total botch job that I had to threaten them with my lawyer to get it at least somewhat acceptable but not totally satisfactory. After it was painted someone keyed or scratched the side so had to be redone again. I could go on and on but think you get the idea. Dealerships also promise one thing and then present with bills when i go to pick up car that were not discussed originally and do not give discounts that are promised at onset. They also try to add on things that are not needed or were just done to pump up the bill. I may be female but am knowledgeable about cars so it is insulting.

Not so of Hyundai anymore

First, way too many recalls, notice of possible recalls. I’m really tired of the tire pressure icon coming on. My knees are sore from hitting the steering column. Didn’t know bumper is made of fiberglass?

When I first purchased my Hyundai Sonata, I loved it. Now, after dealing with some issues, that feeling is slowly declining. My vehicle had been part of the recall where the engine block needed to be replaced. At the time, my vehicle had about 50,000 miles on it. That makes no sense to me. Now CV axles and the car only has a little over 58,000 miles. I don’t understand the quality with these types of things needing to be replaced/repaired so soon.

Too many service issues makes me believe now this is why the extended warranty is necessary. Just sell a vehicle that doesn't NEED so much service.

Outside of Sonata is beautiful and inside but fronts seats are too hard and passenger too low. Engine had too many breakdowns and repairs but personnel refused to acknowledge only to eventually fix customer's initial complaints. Why would a customer want to return a good vehicle and suffer without it for days??

Not Happy

I should have listened to previous owners that stated this car has a lot of recalls, there is always something being recalled on these vehicles. There body of the vehicles are nice but why so many recalls. I’m shopping around to trade my car in for something else besides a Hyundai.

Fall apart vehicle

I love my car except for the front bumper has pulled loose and can’t be fixed. Replacement is $800 to $1,000. The plastic on the left of the driver’s seat keeps falling down. The air conditioner doesn’t work very well.

The Sonata can use improvement More notifications such as when lights are out . Seat warmers better Ac/heat circulation could be better Don’t make passenger seat lower than driver Brakes always squeak no matter new or old

Quality of manufacturing.

Not as I expected for quality of car. It was overhyped. The gas mileage is not what I expected. The exterior is nice though. We had to shell out $128.00 just to change the light bulb on the breaklight. The light bulb cost less than $4.00, but the housing burned and melted. Our service advisor was very nice and he contacted Hyundai on our behalf regarding the issue. Hyundai only agreed to pay half of installation of the break light assembly. This is a safety issue/manufacturer's defect. This should be looked at.
