Great performance, comfort, safety and fuel economy.
This is my third Hyundai. I also purchased a 2013 Elantra and a 2015 Sonata, both new. The 2013 Elantra had great unified styling. The 2015 Sonata had very awkward exterior styling and a poorly designed dash. The 2018 has improved exterior styling and a much better dash design, but it is not a beautifully styled car like the 2013 Elantra or the 2011 series Sonatas. The profile of the car looks very dated. Styling elements do not flow well together.
Getting beyond these negatives, it is a great car in terms of comfort and drivability. It could use a little more power, but it is adequate. It rides well, although a little harsher than the 2015, but not objectionable. Steering is much improved over the 2015. The dash is much more attractive than the 2015, and Apple CarPlay is a great addition. One of the reasons I purchased this car was the available tech package which is now only a 1000.00 option. I would not buy a new car without the features included in this package. The smart cruise control works very well and makes driving much easier. The Automatic Emergency Braking is a great safety feature. The lane keep assist works ok but not great. It is not as sophisticated as automatic lane centering, but it does add to the safety of the car and is well worth having. There is a little adjustment period in terms of understanding exactly what it does and does not do, and the key is remembering that it is a gentle "assist" only. I would much prefer automatic lane centering.
Gas mileage is outstanding and even better than the 2015.
It is nice to be able to get all the features I wanted this time without having to accept leather seats and other options I did not really need on my 2015. Leather seats look great but they are definitely cold in the morning. The 2018 is an SEL and the 2015 was the Limited.
Reliability has been excellent, as was the case with the 2015 and 2013. So far I have approximately 10,000 miles on the car.
It is a great value and an amazingly high quality car for the price.
