Great looks...lots of issues....hardly a year old

Love the look of the car but have had many issues that I do not think should be happening on a car one year old...air blower motor had to be replaced, headlight such, phone, USB issues, navigation screen goes black whenever...,no navigation without a cell phone, never received roadside info. Dealer service was a joke....only got ANY help when it got to service manager.

1st Sonata was great. This one has some issues. I was not told what the software update was about and was horrified on Mother's Day to find myself lurching down a main road in a local city. This is apparently called "safe mode" and was set off by the software update. A warning that this could happen would have been nice. In spite of Hyundai knowing about this problem, when I took the car in, they did not have the parts and I had to rent a car. I was told two days but the part didn't come in for several. Meanwhile, Hyundai paid for the basic rental cost and I had to "apply" for the remainder (taxes, fees, insurance). I am still waiting for my money as of August 30. This has soured me to Hyundai in general though the local service department has been fine.

Back Camera Design Sucks

The camera behind the car shouldn't be in the bumper. I can't even use the bumper protector because camera gets covered. The side mirrors are too vulnerable for burglary and expensive to replace. They can be easily removed by burglars.

Has mileage is good, but water pump for hybrid system had gone out 2 times.

I have at my sonata hybrid for less than one year. I have less than 17000 miles on the car, and have had to take it into the Hyundai dealership 2 times within 2 months to get the water pumps replace. This is caused a lot of issues as far as trying to get a rental car and trying to make sure that the car that I bought to drive a lot and be reliable has now gone out twice. The gas mileage on the car is fantastic and have gotten almost 700 miles out of a tank gas, but if I have to worry about taking in the car to get a system checked out every 2 months, the gas mileage doesn't matter. Having to take it in for 3rd time, will then cause me to go directly to Hyundai to get the car replaced under the lemon law.

Loved style

Loved 2018 Sonata style and color. Also online reviews were good and price was ok so I went to dealership and just purchased when my husband was hesitant. He didn’t come with me but had to come sign the paper and told me i was crazy. I wish I researched about the car before making purchase.

I am unhappy with my sonata. I liked my Elantra much better than the sonata.

Not as comfortable as I thought. The quality I was looking for is not there. Too low to the ground. The brake sticks and clicks each time it is released. The hands free voice activate does not work. The radio is a joke. No good at all

Sonata Review

Love my vehicle however, I had a faulty radio in which car play did not work. I had to take a vacation day from work twice in order to get it fixed and Barnes Crossing completely forgot to order the radio which took weeks to get replaced.

Very disappointed

This is my third Sonata. It is beautiful to look at. I have received very many comments On what it looks like. Unfortunately it is loaded with mechanical problems. Don't get me wrong it is simply this unit alone. I have had it in for various problems some more sever then others. Each time I was provided with a loaner to get home and use until this one was fixed. Which never got accomplished. I a in the process of "Lemon Law" right now. While I can complain about this unit they gave me another '18 to drive and it didn't have any of the problems I experienced on mine. They even gave me a '19 it too was okay. I have asked them to simply giver me an even swap but that isn't possible they tell me. I also stated I would go back a whole year and take a '17 with the same equipment etc. No dice. But I must say that I would buy a new one if we could come to deal, where it doesn't cost me any more than what I am paying right now.

Car is nice, only problems is that it’s uncomfortable to sit in for a longer period of time, it also doesn’t have every feature others are offering for similar prices, very good on gas and fits my needs though My sunroof leaked air when I first got the car brand new, dealership repaired

Wanted this car to be more.

Where to start. The car has awesome styling inside and out. The 7 inch CarPlay android auto radio is one of the best on the market of any factory radio. My downside is the engine has weak acceleration and is weak going uphill. If 2 inches of snow are on the ground it’s not a great ride through that like my older Elantra was. The biggest issue with this car and biggest safety issue is the headlights. First they are aimed way to high but that’s not the main issue. The fact that they give little to no real night visibility is the problem. They are terrible. In upstate NY where I live I almost hit 3-4 deer because my lights weren’t bright enough to let me see them. It’s a major safety issue and if I had known I probably would have bought a Toyota Camry.

Blind spot problem

The car is nice but the blind spot is very difficult to drive with. I’ve experienced my first car accident in a 30 yr driving history in this car due to no blind spot detection. It’s too wide! A whole truck I didn’t see going 70, I was only going 4 miles. Car was destroyed and I was at fault! I wish I would’ve purchased another suv like my Hyundai Santa Fe ?

Not a bad car

Looks great on the out side, cozy on the inside. Rides well with moderate road noise. Average bells and whistles, amazing headlights. Blue link remote start is stupid, not in a good way either. CarPlay navigation is marginal at best. Fuel mileage is good. Brakes,steering, & safety alert systems are very good as well.

Don’t buy this car if you weigh 250lbs!

Difficult to get in and out of if you weigh 250 lbs. Somewhat uncomfortable ride with a weak lumbar support on the driver's side and no lumbar support on the passenger side. Missing garage door opener that should be standard on all vehicles - safety issue!!! Otherwise good performance and great economy.

2018 Sonata, Bad Starter

The starter went bad with under 20,000 miles. Lots of air noise coming into the cabin but the technicians at the dealership claim that couldn't hear it when they took it for a test drive but everyone that rides in my car can hear the noise. I had to have a four wheel alignment already that wasn't covered under the warranty. The car when idling is kind of loud.

Meh.

I don’t know. Drives sluggish on comfort mode and drags tail on eco. Good gas mileage but nothing too fancy. Decent car aside from the month the deal ship had it because of an update I was told to do and had to bring it back to replace some harness that they barely explained to me and supposedly that did the trick. Better than the older sonatas. But, it is a decent car for the for the price I guess.

It's ok

There are problems with the car. Sometimes it will not start. Can't narrow it down as to when it does that. Delay when I put the car in reverse. Again, with that issue it does not do that all the time but sometimes when its delayed, stuck etc and I press the gas to force it it makes a metal to metal noise

Power seat controls failed at 9000 miles. Battery went dead in three month’s. I have heard of other owners having engine problems with less than 3000 miles on car.The electronic equipment on this car causes problems and so far I am not comfortable driving it.

I like the car, but I feel that the computer functions of the car are too complicated. It is not easy to read the Manual and understand what you have to do. I have been driving cars for over 60 years and feel that this cars electronics are not up to speed. It seems that I am always waiting for the next shoe to drop. I have never had a power seat control problem any other car before.I have never had a trunk light malfunction because of an electronic chip before. I am not the only owner who has problems. Some other person in my community with the same car had the engine harness go bad, not once, but twice and decided to get rid of the car with only 3000 miles on it.This car has serious problems.

Great Features

I’ve had my Sonata for almost a year and a half now. I love the car and my family all drive Hyundai’s. However, one major hiccup has me considering trading in for a different vehicle, probably a newer model Sonata.

I think I got a Lemon

I bought my 2018 Hyundai Sonata new after reading all the positive reviews, seeing them in the showroom and rest driving one. Yes, it is beautiful both inside and out. I love the lines. Great comfort inside too. The BIG downside was complaining to the dealership for 2 years about the hesitation when accelerating and reading numerous similar reports on line. All said their dealers did not believe them. Finally after 2 years, Hyundai issued a recall for my vehicle on an engine part. It's about 90% better, but its not re-assuring when it hesitates on accelerating into traffic on the rare occasions. Too bad, I wish I owned the Hyundai everyone else is describing. It IS a beautiful car.

Mechanical Issues

I loved my 2018 Sonata but kept having the same recall issue with it and had to lemon law the car. The car drove lovely. It was spacious and had plenty of storage room on the inside of it. Extra cup holders as well as a place to store my sunglasses.
