I love my Forester!

Fun to drive and handles nicely! I like the all wheel all the time drive. I makes the vehicle very stable and it corners very well. I am looking forward to a long road trip as soon as possible. There will be no problem finding plenty of room for luggage and whatever we need to travel!

2015 Subaru Forester Touring 2.5 w/Eyesight

This is my first Subaru although I hade been looking at the brand for some time. I am very pleased with the first 6k miles I have driven. The car rides quieter, tighter and smoother than I had expected. The performance also surprises me. I drive 20 miles city and 30 miles highway each to work each day. The 170 HP is surprisingly peppy and has provided me with an average MPG of 30.1. Visibility is excellent as is the steering and braking. I was skeptical of the Eyesight at first but have become a believer. The overall fit and finish is excellent. Although small, there are three things I would like to improve or change. While seating positions are plentiful, I would like a more fitting "side of body" bolstering of the seat. Subaru does many things to improve safety. One area they missed for me is radio. You need to reach and look when changing the selector from one set of stations to another on XM group. The touch screen is also small and you must take your eyes off the road to see what you are doing or pull over. The last item I would look at is the tires. I would have thought Subaru would have matched the vehicle with a better all season tire. The current one rates low for winter use on TireRack and other sites. Overall these three shortcomings for me may mean nothing at all to others. And the vehicles "great" features surpass those negatives mentioned. Would I buy it again? ABSOLUTELY! Would I recommend it to a friend? ABSOLUTELY!

Subaru Forester

This is our second Forester and find it to be a great vehicle with plenty of power on the frwy and all through the mountains going to Bend. Quiet smooth dependable ride and really hugs the road. A real beauty to look at too.

Too many unnecessary repairs. The 2015 Subaru Forester is the worst car I've ever owned.

After purchasing this car and early on, Frequently the ignition key wouldn't turn as the steering wheel lock was interfering with it. I had to jam the wheel left & right several times to free up the lock. I was told this would go away but it never has. Here it is with over 170,000 miles and the steering wheel still has to be jammed left & right to free up that locking mechanism. June 2017, the factory battery died. Apparently an undersized battery was installed. It only had 390 cold cranking amps but Subaru specs required 590 amps. I called Subaru and they said to just buy a battery and they'd reimburse me. Since the factory warranty didn't cover this, I expected an argument. Obviously they intentionally installed an undersized battery. In August 2017 with only 52,086 miles, the factory clutch died and had to be replaced ($1,124). I forget how much Subaru wanted to charge for a new clutch but I went to my mechanic (Atlee Auto) and they were around $500 cheaper. That same month, a factory recall for oil consumption came out. There wasn't any charge but Subaru ended up replacing every seal & gasket on the engine at only 52,952 miles. I'm still replacing a quart of oil every 3,000 miles but they refused another repair on that. In December 2022, at 150,038 miles, the clutch slave cylinder was leaking and I had Atlee replace it ($256). Unfortunately it was leaking onto the clutch but they weren't sure how it would affect the clutch. Over the next few weeks, shifting was getting difficult and I eventually lost 1st & 6th gears. In January 2023, 150,887 miles, the clutch was replaced ($1,907). I've been driving manual transmissions for 50 yrs and have never replaced a clutch and most of those cars had over 100,000 miles. My last two cars were a 1987 Jeep Comanche pickup and a 1995 Jeep Cherokee. They had 307,000 and 417,000 miles and the clutches were the only parts never replaced. Considering Subaru's advertising claims that they have excellent quality one would think they'd at least reimburse some of these unnecessary repairs even if the repairs weren't performed by Subaru. Outside the warranty period, having a dealer do repairs such as these, one would be an idiot to want to pay their overpriced repairs.

2015 Forester

We have had all of the recommended maintenance performed on our Forester, paying special attention to oil and filter changes. At about 85,000 miles the Forester started using oil which I found is a common issue with the 2015 Forester. It is so bad that we now carry 2 quarts of oil with us on long trips. An oil consumption test showed our consumption within Subaru standards. Forth but last Subaru!!

Too Expensive Everything

I got the Forester because it was the best rated for AWD. It's definitely the best suspension and driving vehicle in the winter. However a month after warranty ran out, it came up with a problem with three warning lights lighting up like a Christmas tree and the Cruse Control wouldn't work while this happens. It's an intermittent problem. Dealer wanted to charge me $350 to fix it. Took it home and found on the internet that it was the break switch, which cost $5 on Amazon, and fix it myself. The control arms broke on the suspension system. $1,600 to replace. No wonder the sales person was insisting on me buying the warranty extension which I didn't have a budget for. It's like the knew I would need it. This is the most expensive vehicle maintenance wise in it's class. Had a Toyota Rav4 before and never this expensive to fix. Buying a Toyota or Honda next time around.

Was never what I hoped for.

I was disappointed early on when it could never and I mean never hold my Bluetooth connection. Never got the gas mileage I expected seems like it wasn’t made to Subaru standards. Center armrest/console is worthless.

Great car with the exception of the 2.5 second delay into 1st gear

We love everything about this car except for the crazy 2.5 second delay when you put it into gear. I am told it is due to the type of emissions in the vehicle and that it is normal for this model. We love the space in the car, the way it drives, etc. Have not driven it in snow yet, but am being told no worries on that.

Almost 5 Stars

This is Subaru number 6 for me. I find they are an excellent value for the money. They keep getting better fuel economy while still having adequate power. The space inside is very good. I would like to see the cup holder spring loaded "fingers" redesigned, they don't work well. I would like to see a brail-like dimple on the first button of the home-link inside rear-view mirror. When I approach at night, I can't easily locate that first button. Or, they could illuminate the buttons with the vehicle lights.

I licke the Forrester but their some things I think could be looked at to make ite better. The back like is on the side instead on the top of the inside roof. The light over the cup holder is useless. THeir is no light in the glove box, you really need one their you can't find anything in there in the dark. That is a few of the things I have found so far.

see my review above.

Holding its own but needing an update

After having driven this car for two years I have to say I still love it. However, it could use some updates in refinement. The ride is a little bouncy/busy over small bumps but handles larger bumps well. Road/tire noise is higher than I like but better than all but the latest versions of the Nissan Rogue and Honda CRV. I get very good gas mileage, around 24 or so in town and it jumps over 30 anytime I get on the highway. It handles slick roads very well with its all wheel drive. I would like to see the styling updated so it doesn't look so boxy. Again, the latest from the competition are looking very stylish. I still haven't had a single warranty issue to deal with, other than wiper blades so would recommend it highly to someone who wants a reliable, economical, and comfortable car. Mine has the Subaru Eyesight safety system and factory navigation, both perform very well and I also recommend those features.

Top Pick for Good Reason

The main nitpicks I have for the Forester are: the ride is a little bouncy; road/tire noise is higher than I like; and as the miles add up, some rattles are more noticeable. Overall, this car is fun to drive and has sporty handling. The acceleration could be better, but it merges with traffic on the freeway just fine. Gas mileage is a real plus. If I light-foot it around town, I can get close to 30mpg. Anytime I hit the freeway, it consistently gets over 30. The room inside is very good, with plenty of space for me (6'2") and four other passengers and their stuff in the back. Other than the rattles, I have had no warranty issues with this car. I would recommend it and would buy another improved model. I am told the latest model year is quieter riding and has more up to date electronic features. I am waiting for the next gen model to see if I want to upgrade...
