never even thought about a hyundai
we needed a new car. we had a toyota and were very happy with it, but we live in an area where snow and ice and very slippery roads are common half of the year, so we wanted something with 4wd or awd. it had to have room in back for a wheelchair, seat at least 5, be very reliable and be great on gas.. oh and it had to be cheap. we did hundreds of hours of researching reviews on all kinds of suv"s. I really wanted a subaru. we went to bakerfield to just check things out, and passed through several dealers. no one had our "unicorn" we went and looked at subarus. the one we went to see .. they had to jump start it to let us test drive it. nice car, but not a good start. so we went in to our toyota dealer.. after all we love our toyota, but didnt like the new toyota suvs much.. but what the heck. they go through our list of needs.. the sales manager does a walk through the entire lot in the summer heat and comes in .. saying i think i have a car for you. they pull out this suv. a hyundai santa fe limited edition. hmm... we take it for a test drive.. not bad.. we end up taking it home that day.
now i will tell youi didnt even look up hyundais. they werent even on our radar. i hated the old style with the round corners, and when you say hyundai, that is what i thought of. now i remember awhile back renting a hyundai elantra. i liked it. it rode well.. only issue was. no cargo area and no awd.. but this was perfect.
the more i drive it, the more i loved it. my husband discovered the independant rear suspension. he was amazed. it something apparently only corvettes and jaguars have.. cool.. but how will it do on snow and ice? well let me tell you two winters later.. great! this thing has claws, i swear it. we have a slope up our driveway.. so when it snows and gets icy, it can be really tricky. this thing digs in and drives right up it! last winter it was the only car to drive for me and my daughters family when the road got scary. it rides super nice the rest of the year too. and the fog lights are great in our mountain home. the leather seats are very nice. even though i was used to fabroc, these are comfy, and the heated seats are amazing. one thing most people dont think about when looking at cars is how the back seats feel. jeeps, fords and most others who have a awd suv have uncomfortable seats. these are not. and they recline! there is a cup holder in teh middle section that pulls down. thats nice but i would like to see a real cup holder for those times we actually have three people in back. usb plug ins in back would be nice also, but the three up front are very nice/ I bought the subscription to XM radio and the sound system is great. i didnt care for the big screen on most of the other vehicles so i was very happy with just the XM radio screen. i didnt think i would like a car more than i like my toyota, but i love the hyundai and the service dept at hyundai is VERY good! toyotas service dept is lacking, so when they send me over to hyundai, im a happy girl! would i get another? yes! next time directly from hyundai. great car, great service. im three years in on a six year old car and it is still amazing. no problems at all. (knock on wood)
