Overall, I love the car. In the Texas heat, I really love the ventilated seats, though I do wish they were more powerful. My last car was a 2020 Honda Insight, and I do prefer the feel and ergonomics of its steering wheel more than the Sonata. But I love all the tech in the car and the big touchscreen, which are much better than the Insight. I LOVE the side cameras when I use the blinkers. I wish I could turn them on without using the blinkers, as I could in the Honda Insight. I don't like the temperature controls not being physical buttons. The temperature controls should ALWAYS be physical buttons. Funny enough, the car has physical buttons for the touchscreen, and I never use them. I do use the physical volume knob though. I'd prefer the physical Home button to be a button on the touchscreen. I love how fast and powerful the USB-C ports are for charging devices. The Insight's engine and brakes were smoother too. There are times when the Sonata lags behind when I push the accelerator or if I apply regen-braking, whereas the Insight didn't. I also prefer that in the Insight, when I add regen-braking, it goes back to no regen-braking after coming to a complete stop. I don't like that it stays after a stop in the Sonata. What I do love about the Sonata over the Insight is that the brake hold button stays on even after I turn off the car. I wish it would do the same for the lane keep assist. I have to turn that on every time I use the car which is annoying. I love getting over-the-air updates for the infotainment system that I didn't get in my Insight. Another thing I preferred with the Insight is the walk-away lock feature with the key fob. I got so used to it that when I got the Sonata I'd walk away from the car after parking it and would forget to lock it, thinking it would lock automatically as the Insight would. I hope in the future y'all make an EV version of the Sonata, as my next car will be an EV for sure. The IONIQ 5 has good tech, but I don't like the way it looks, and I don't want a crossover. I much prefer the look of the Sonata with the light bars.

Don't buy the sanota without making sure it has the equipment you want

The dealers will lie to get you to buy these cars, and will sell you a stripped down model for the price of one with the equipment you were asking for.

Good car, good mileage, dependable, with only a few electronic issues, but sometimes electronics are over-engineered.

Still one of the best - but not with the lead it once had

Pros: Tech-forward; highly integrated with lots of nice touches. Seat and ride comfort (including cabin noise) still excellent. Very reliable vehicle over the long haul. Cons: Hyundai's design choices seem to be moving away from my personal preferences. The 2006, 2011, and 2020 design refreshes were edgy; these newer models are less aggressive/sporty and yet less welcoming all at once. The move away from physical buttons stands out - it's time to bring physical buttons back to important controls like climate and media as many competitors have (or never got rid of). The newest Sonatas are underpowered compared to their Camry and Accord competitors yet don't deliver better fuel efficiency. Other design decisions to move away from seemingly little things - button in the door handle, garage door controls on rear view mirror, etc. - are perplexing and add up to a lesser quality of life for no real design gain.

Sold a Car No One Can Fix

Of the 7 cars I have owned, this vehicle has had more repairs than any of the previous and I've only put 30k on the car. 2 of the 3 engine mounts failed (which I was told is common :O), my fuel pump failed, my cluster failed (and continues to fail), and no one will even attempt to diagnose the cluster because they cannot replicate the issue while it is in the shop even though it happens to me every time I drive.

Nagging Issues

I'd like to like the car more, but... AM radio broke and needed to be replaced, horn broke and will need to be replaced, backup camera broke and will need to be repaired/replaced. Dash adhesives failed and need to be replaced. I know it's just one vehicle, but these issues, when combined, speak to a poor build quality and/or use of substandard components. I've spent too much time at the dealer, and have more time to spend there over the next few weeks. Not sure I'd buy again - after five prior vehicles with absolutely no issues.

A Decent Vehicle

The 2025 Sonata has a comfortable ride. The interior configuration is less than ideal for a shorter person. Did not have this issue with my 2020 Sonata. I have a hybrid model and the highway milage is no better than the 2020 Sonata which is gas powered - about 40mpg. However, I do get about 33 mpg in town. I do not like the column gear shift. It is hard for me to get it into neutral. This vehicle lacks HomeLink, a compartment for sunglasses, and the console is too far to the rear. I do not like the split navigation screen. I have to go through three steps to get the navigation portion to have a light background so one can easily see the route. I did not have this issue on the 2020 Sonata. A taller person probably would not have these complaints. Operationally, the vehicle is fine. The time it takes to get up to highways speed on the interstate is acceptable. But I find the interior configuration lacking and somewhat annoying. If the future Sonatas have a similar interior, I will not purchase one.
