I enjoy my Prius!

Have been driving my '08 Prius with very few problems. There are a few things I would change, to make life easier, if I could.

2008 Prius - Great overall, if pricey

My 2008 model Prius is fairly comfortable, although I have to keep a cushion behind my back or I get lower back pain (this is the only car I've had that happen in.) Toyota always has great quality, and the Prius doesn't disappoint. It's built to conserve gas, not to be 'fun to drive,' but it's not difficult to drive - it accelerates and turns as well as it needs to. I didn't get it fully loaded, I do like the backup cam but it doesn't have the lines that show trajectory like in newer models. Doesn't score high on value for money because no new car is good value for money, and the Prius is expensive. But I like the design - you can fit a surprising amount of cargo in the back. I even put the seats down and loaded a large dresser from Ikea into it (don't remember exact dimensions, but one end of the long boards was against the back hatch and the other end in the front seat.)

2008 Prius

I have a 2008 Prius that I bought new. I now have a little over 83,000 miles on it. We've run it up and down the Pacific Coast a number of times as well as all over the Sacramento region. It is very comfortable to ride in. I bought my tires at Maita. I enjoy the fact that they take care of them at no extra charge. I haven't very many complaints. I worry about the cost to replace the hybrid battery. It gets comparatively good gas mileage but not what I thought I would get. Originally I understood I would get 45 mpg in town and 48 mpg freeway driving. It goes up a mile to a mile and a half on a trip but than goes back down to 39.9 or in that general vicinity, in town driving. Besides a headlight going out which was very expensive to replace. I replaced both headlights to avoid labor costs at over $400. Ouch! Other than the repairs being expensive. I have enjoyed driving this vehicle.

I love it

although as it ages it is starting to cost some $ each year..I own an 08, so the first 7 years only oil changes and tires, now I have had a wheel issue, next is a wheel bearing, and my 12 volt battery (which I did not even know I had) died when I was away, "they" say it goes every 60,000 miles without warning...believe them, thankfully I had a person with me who has AAA, now I have it!

what a great vehicle

Super, it serves as my work truck gardening, but you can take it to the fanciest ball and be proud. Living in Maine, the "Only" draw back is that it is a light auto (that's one reason it gets the mileage it does) so driving in snow is "if-ish", and buying studded snow tires is expensive the little I need to go on the roads in winter. I keep 170 lbs in back gust for weight, which I am sure compromises the better mileage. It is also lower than my last Subaru Forester which had a higher clearance.

Overall Been a Great Vehicle

The 2008 Toyota Prius has been a great addition to our family. The gas mileage is incredible. Overall we have had very few issues with the vehicle until it hit 100,000 miles. Since 100,000 miles we've had to put in a new hybrid system and some additional major service. However, the service costs have ended up being less then monthly car payments for a new vehicle.

Still going

The vehicle just rolled over 208,000 and still going strong with only regular maintenance. It has started burning more oil in its old age, so an oil change is required more often. Much roomier than it looks and other than the floor mats, it still looks new.

Battery life

I love my Prius. I feel I'm doing my part to keep pollutants out of the air. However the big battery's warranty expires at 100,000 miles, and I don't like the thought of ending up with a $3,500 bill to replace the battery.

Reliable and great gas mileage.

I have a 2008 Prius, and had difficulties with the gas pedal well before the huge government recall. Since then the car, like most Toyota's has been reliable. However, it now has almost 200,000 miles so some expected wear and tear problems. The gas mileage is great. The car is noisy. The ride and handling are are fair.

2008 Prius

We have had our Prius for five years and have put 120000 miles on it. I tell people I have three other cars I like to drive better but I have never had a car that gets 45 mpg that I like better. We will get another Prius next fall.

Prius

For the most part I like my Prius. When I don’t like my Prius is when it is hot, sometimes running the ac, even on low, drains the battery. It is also lacks power on hills, or when accelerating. I haven’t had to replace the battery yet.

Good overall reliability but recurring issues

After 200+ k miles, this Prius had relatively decent service reliability. HOWEVER, this car suffers from severe design/engineering and electrical flaws. We have probably spent thousands of dollars on headlight bulbs over the life of this car. EXTREMELY frustrating to have to replace these lamps every 6-8 weeks. Of course, the Toyota dealer continued to deny there were any unusual headlight issues while still under warranty. Pay attention, and you will frequently see other similar vintage Prius driving with one light out. I always suspected some type of voltage spike during starting the car, likely related to the hybrid system... somehow. Absolutely awful lighting reliability. Additionally, the engineering for the the reflector + headlight housing is terrible! I would even say DANGEROUSLY insufficient light throw! Better with LED conversion lamps. Other major flaw: Front hub/wheel bearings. The OEM parts had normal reliability. Since the original set, we have had to replace these EIGHT times. NAPA bearings were the worst. But even after using Toyota OEM parts, we have had to replace hubs + bearings nearly every 15,000 miles. Geez... TIRES last longer than these poorly engineered hub/bearing/axle systems and questionable OEM replacement parts have.
