Quicker than expected
I admit that I was hesitant to buy a 4 cylinder Santa Fe. However, the 2.0T (turbocharged) 4 cylinder engine is surprisingly strong and peppy. I'm particularly impressed with the fact that it goes through the Virginia mountains and almost never has to downshift. The reason is low-RPM torque and this engine has plenty of it. It actually feels much more powerful that it is.
On the concept of V6 power and 4 cylinder gas mileage, no. It's ALMOST the power of the V6 and ALMOST the fuel mileage of the V6, in a comparison with my Toyota RAV4 V6. Of course, the RAV4 is somewhat lighter and smaller, you could call it a wash. Just don't believe the mpg the computer claims; check it by dividing miles driven by gallons used. Not bad, just not as good as they claim.
The car itself is quiet, solid, and comfortable. It's comfortable on a long trip and totally reliable at this point. Transmission is smooth and helps the little engine give its best.
Handling is quick and solid, if not exactly crisp. Braking is strong, almost too strong some times.
The electronics and controls are not the most intuitive I've ever seen. Using the climate control system takes some study; work it out before you get into traffic. Same for the steering wheel controls; they work fine once you figure them out. Features such as garage door opener, phone link, etc. work fine and are relatively convenient.
Overall, nice car for highway or town.
