Expected more
I traded in a 2018 Volvo XC60 for the 2021 Hyundai Santa Fe. I wanted to buy a Genesis GV80 but it cost too much. The Santa Fe should have been a close second. I was told it was the same vehicle, just a different body and seats. I realized I was taking a step down but there were some features missing that make the vehicle an unfortunate purchase.
I am all about safety features and expect that each year a vehicle will exceed prior year’s. Since the 2021 Santa Fe was redesigned, there wasn’t much information about it so I was making some blind decisions. I wanted to purchase the top of the line Santa Fe but none were available.
Comfort—the driver’s seat is not that comfortable. I am using a cushion. I was told that the ventilated seats make the seat a little harder. I can live with that. The back of the seat is easily adjustable but for long drives it might not be comfortable enough.
Noise—the vehicle is quiet. Much quieter than the Volvo.
Handling—it is a fast vehicle. Before you know it your are going over the speed limit but don’t notice it or feel it. There are no alerts to let you know you are speeding. This is a major issue. I haven’t had a vehicle in years that didn’t have an over the speed limit warning. For that reason alone, I would give up this vehicle. The engine is too peppy to not have an over the limit warning. Tiger Woods might not have had his crash if he had an over the limit warning system.
Safety features—there are lots but they are confusing. You have a clear view on your dashboard if you use your turn signal BUT if a car is right next to you there is a tiny light on the mirror and no warning ding. This is not good.
I was backing up in a parking lot and watching my screen and a car passed right behind me and I got zero warning. This is not good
If I am stopped at a light, and the car in front of me moves off, it will alert me to that but won’t tell me if I am backing into a vehicle.
I get random bells going off but I can’t figure out why. Nothing is showing up on the screen.
All in all, I expected more from this vehicle and it just didn’t perform the way I had hoped.
