CRAP

We thought we are clever and bought the car almost new - was used before as a loaner from a service department, 2k miles, more than 8k under MSRP. The breaks never worked, either super sensitive or would not do anything, finally at 8k miles we convinced the ford technicians to look at it - after several tries and turned out some vacuum thing was malfunctioning - they said this problem exists for a lot of ford cars, but was kind of new for the Escape. At 18k miles the car was not idling smooth anymore, so took it to get it checked out, they changed the spark plugs?!?!? but it worked, for about a week it was idling fine, but then way worse than before. Next in line was replacement of head gasket, took forever to get the car back, once I had it it took less than 25 miles until the engine locked. The check engine light came on while driving on the interstate, I drove to the next exit to get to a gas station there, before I reached it the engine LOCKED, well they replaced it, not sure what it was. At 36k miles the car starts to make noise again, took it for diagnose and took some iterations, well, the flywheel was broken. The rapid for it took forever again, and since I have it back its not idling smooth anymore. Will go back soon again to get that fixed, so lets see what's next. When I can Ford service they are always happy when I say 2017 Ford Escape - I think there are a lot more lemons out there than just mine. Well, I bought extended warranty from Ford and they were and will continue bleed for this crap.

2017 Ford you should Escape from

A 2017 car should never need the transmission replaced. Nor should the warning light have to tell you to “pull over safely” because your engine block cracked and head gasket is shot and on and on and on.

Expired 5 year 60k mile warranty 78k miles

Expired 5 year 60k mile warranty 78k miles and already has coolant leaving into engine cyclinders. Resolution is engine replacement. Also has intermittent transmission shifting issues. My vehicle usually last for 200k miles or 18 years but not this vehicle.

Never Buying Ford Again

We bought ours used. At 70,000 miles, it suffered from "catastrophic engine failure" on the highway out of nowhere. It broke down while going up a hill and had to pay $300 to get it towed. Had to pay $8,500 to get it fixed, and Ford had the car for 2 months (which is hard when you have a job). Then when I got the car back, it turns out they reinstalled a panel improperly and we had to take it back to Ford the same day (heard scraping while on the highway home). Also when we got the car back, a small crack in the front windshield became 3x bigger after we got the car back and had to pay $500 to fix it because Ford said it "probably cracked in the wash". 2 weeks later, the engine lags when starting and makes whirring sounds. Take it in AGAIN and they say we might have to replace the entire transmission, which will cost thousands more dollars. Get another opinion and they say to bring it in every 2 weeks to check on it. And got the slow start and whirring sound fixed for more money. All of this happened at 70,000 miles in 4 months. There was also a class action lawsuit forming in 2020 because they had crappy Ecoboosts and didn't recall or fix anything really. If this happened to someone without $10,000 in savings for car emergencies, then this could financially break someone, if you can't sell it and still have payments. We've never been more disappointed in a car company, and wish they would've actually stood behind their product.

Tolerating The Second Lemon

I love my new car in every way except for the intermittent "clunking" when shifting from R to D. The dealer could not fix the problem with my first new 2017 Escape so they gave me another one. This new car continues to have the same problem. I have been told (by knowledgeable people) that this is a common problem with the 2017 Escape. I have been reassured that it is not a safety problem and to keep a record of each time I have this problem. Thus far the total is 27 times since 8/10/17. I will see if the 2018 has the same problem since I still fall under the lemon law.

Not my old 2002 Escape.

I like the pep of the 4 cyl. turbo, I like the gas mileage for a this size SUV. I detest the change in location of cruise controls, the width of the rear hatch and lack of separate window access. I really hate the AWD system and its misleading 4WD badging. There is no 'low' range AWD or 4WD locking.

Escape 2017 S

The car is comfortable to drive, seats are very comfortable. Good view from.drivers site. Two main issues: transition is designed very poorly and often the car doesn't know if to hear up or down resulting in delay of acceleration. Secondly, poor built quality, plastic pieces breaking, you can see gaps in interior cushions, plastic bolts hiding plastic undergo have to be tightened every 60-80 miles. Plastic clips in the interior get loose with time so the whole car is rattling.

Not up to my expectations.

Pros: gas mileage, and turbo Cons: seal leaks, Sync3(too much BS, not intuitive, wifi bandwidth hog), cruise control's location, tow package malfunction, battery longevity only 3yrs. I bought this vehicle new and many annoyances and not dependable functionality. I take this vehicle in for maintenance as scheduled and monitor all levels and system warnings. The tow package sensor has malfunctioned and after 4 trips to the dealer was never fixed.

Just not very happy.

It seems as though Ford doesn't put the same dependability into their cars as they do their trucks. Seems as though had one small issue, got it fixed but now 3-4 issues later, this is a 2017 mind you. Will not buy another ford car. Truck , yes. Car, NO.

"Clunk!"

I really like my 2017 Ford Escape except for one thing. Almost every time I put the car in reverse and the into drive it goes "clunk". It was so bad and the dealer had the car for two weeks and could not fix the problem. They were very nice in giving me a new 2017, even the same color, and the new car also has had some of the "clunking" problems. The dealer claims that the problem was occurring because I was shifting from R to D too fast. The car has about 6000 miles on it now and I just put up with the frequent "clunk" because I really like the car and other features. I have been told by several 2017 Escape owners that this has been a problem in the 2017 model. I have had the car checked by non Ford mechanics and have been told that it is not a safety problem so I just put up with the "clunk".

Its OK

We bought the car to replace a Hyundai Santa Fe that was totaled. It was the only used vehicle we could find that was comparably equipped. But the while the turbo engine gives the car slightly more pep of the starting line, it is no better as highway speed for passing with a normal jack-rabbit start that makes difficult to manage acceleration especially on slippery roads.

Fun to drive vehicle

Despite the issues I've had with my vehicle, I still enjoy owning it. I have approximately 42K on it and so far replaced the engine, rear differential unit, and all lug nuts (they were swollen). Ford should have provided information regarding these issues prior to my purchasing the vehicle. It guess its all about the sale and don't care what comes afterwards. I never abuse this SUV and have been disappointed in what I have had to endure.

Peeling paint

I really like my Ford Escape, but then the paint started peeling. This is happening to the blue and white 2017 Ford Escapes. The vehicle is only 3.5 years old! The warranty is only for 3 years. Ford will not cover a manufacturing problem.

To small

Car runs and drives nice. Our old Ford Escape had a lot more room. the lug nuts on this 2018 Ford Escape Delaminates on the outside layer. This made this swell from moister. Had a super hard time changing a flat one day. I called the dealer and explained to them the situation. They said it wasn't a recall and was not covered by warranty. 240 dollars for a new set on a 1 1/2 year old car. Unexceptable!

Check Engine Light

My car had around 40 thousand miles when my check Engine Light came on. I contacted Ford and was told there was no recall and it would cost me around eight thousand dollars. Suffice it to say this is my first and last ford.

Great, small SUV.

Titanium package is quite complete and comfortable. Reasonable mileage but should be better. Luggage rack is almost decoration with limited ability to adjust. Needs storage spaces for small objects like bungie cords in back and tiedown rings are good for a cargo net but problematic for routine packages. Note that luggage rack crossbars are not included with the luggage rack (do they really think it is just decoration?). FordPass and linking Android phone to the car is almost intuitive and works great. No regrets going from my Equinox to the Escape.
