2011 Hyundai Sonata
Once I bought all weather tires and learned I had to inch over into another lane due to poor visibility, I enjoyed my Sonata for almost five years. There is a lot of room for passengers, it handles well and the car is comfortable, it accelerates quickly and its standard features provided all the comfort and convenience I required. Plus the gas mileage is decent. Then for the last year, people have been telling me that my right tail light is out. I went to the dealer four times, and it was always working once I got there. I was told it was an intermittent problem and it couldn't be fixed if the service rep could not see it malfunction. This last time I went in for service, the whole electrical system for my tail lights had to be replaced because the heat from the bulbs melted the sockets they were in and ruined the wiring. My Hyundai warranty nor my extended warranty covered this problem that could have caused a fire. I was simply told my warranty did not cover light bulbs. After searching the internet, I found plenty of other car owners complaining about the same electrical problem. I feel Hyundai should have fixed my tail light the first time I mentioned it, even if they didn't witness the light being out, since it would appear this is a known problem. Being told the light bulb caused the problem (on both back lights) just insults my intelligence. I also had problems with the starter not working to turn the engine that was quickly fixed during my last service visit. Lastly, I have to mention there was a recall on the engine. I went to the service department and they looked at it and said it was fine. I can only trust they were correct.
