2024 Santa Fe - Lot to be desired

I normally would not buy the first model year of a redesign; however, I bought the 2024 Santa Fe due to track record of the many different models I, my family or friends had owned over the years. I previously owned a 2016 Santa Fe; let's just say I miss that vehicle. The 2024 leaves a lot to be desired. Firstly, the driver compartment and seat are not nearly as comfortable as my previous vehicle. I do like the flat center counsel for storage; however, it could've been installed lower to give more knee/leg room. The operation of the radio/entertainment system is foolish. No option for station presets, only favorites which requires you to take eyes off the road to scroll the screen to find a favorite channel if you have more than 5 saved. Using Carplay, if you're phone has any kind of sound playing, radio switches off to whatever is on phone, but when you end application on phone, you have to then hit the media button until you get back to the radio. The HVAC counsel is a touch screen and is hard to see in certain lighting conditions, not to mention you once again have to take eyes off road in order to know if you are pushing the right buttons. Don't get me started on the heads-up sensor on top of the steering wheel; found out I had to purchase new lenses for my sunglasses because I was not able to set the cruise control with the original lenses. And don't put your head back too far or take a drink or eat anything while driving because it will kick out of cruise control because it can't see your face. Even after the so-called update, still awful. As far as the body design, while it looks different than a lot of vehicles, there are many things that disappoint. First of all, the taillights and reverse lights are too small and too low to the ground. Compared to my 2016 Santa Fe, the 2024 headlights are marginal at best. They ride high and do not illuminate the ditch areas along the road. This almost caused me to hit a deer the first time I drove it at night! As far as the body shape, the boxier style causes the vehicle to be affected by the wind more which then causes the vehicles monitoring system to send a "Need a Break" message more often than I care to see. Along with that, adding a third row did nothing but add weight to the vehicle. Both of which has cause a reduction in fuel mileage as compared to the 2016 model. While I understand having turbo will affect mileage, I'm seeing an average drop of 8-9 miles/gallon through approximately 33,000 miles of driving. Otherwise, the vehicle handles nicely and is a rather quiet ride. Through the years, the Santa Fe has been fairly reliable; with that being said, my 2024 has been in the shop more in the first 30k miles than my 2016 was and I drove that over 200k miles. It will take a lot of design changes before I would decide to purchase a third Santa Fe at this point.

Transmission issue

The car that I’m leasing had to have the entire transmission replace with less than 15 thousand miles. Which is a first for me with any car that I’ve purchased in the past and not even on the vehicle I traded in. That is my major issue with this car. Other than this major problem. I throughly enjoy this car. The rating would have been higher if not for this major problem.

Absolutely Amazing Vehicle!

I have had previously owned many of the luxury cars on the market, BMW, Audi and Volvo. Nothing compares to the quality of my Santa Fe. The technology is absolutely top notch and unmatched. Reliability is a great quality, the added features are exceptionally priced and am extremely happy with my purchase. Value for the price is outstanding!

First model year gremlins

I’ve had issues with the battery going dead in my garage to the point that the doors wouldn’t even open. The mechanical key took some YouTube research to use the first time. Would be a good thing to demonstrate during new vehicle orientation. Took it for recall issue for some switch issue in the overhead sunroof control panel. 3 trips and a change of service departments later the sunroof finally worked again. Other than those minor issues I enjoy driving the vehicle. It’s comfortable and has more technology than I can master. I knew the first model might have some growing pains when I decided to buy it. I’d do it again.

Not the greatest

So far I have had to replace the rotors and I didn’t have the car 12 months. Then had to replace the gear shift because the car would not go into gear.

Mostly great

I was one of the first in my city to buy the new Santa Fe. I thought the styling was excellent. For a while I was the only one I saw, but now it's lousy with them. I think it's a great car and very well made. The only things I would fault are the turbo lag and that the XRT model I had is not really off roady. Cosmetic only.

My Santa Fe

First off, I work part time for a vehicle rental company. I have the opportunity to drive many vehicles from different manufacturers. In the last eight years I have been very impressed with the vehicles from Hyundai/Kia. Through a series of events my daughter needed to purchase a new car and we look at a '24 Santa Fe with less than 800 miles on it. Two years earlier I had the opportunity to drive a brand new '23 Santa Fe Limited and, I was quite impressed with it. I liked all of the options that it had for the price. When the new generation came out it really caught my eye. Fast forward to June 2025, I went with my daughter to look at a number of '24 Santa Fe's at a dealer in Sheboygan Wisconsin. She eventually fell in love with an Ecotronic gray Limited and purchased it. I was so impressed with it and all of the features that it had made me want one myself. Four days later I purchased one from the same dealer. I purchased a Phantom Black Limited and suprised my daughter with my purchase. The options, ride and build quality are excellent. For the price, I think that Hyundai hit it out of the ballpark. I've driven many luxury cars that as far as I'm concerned, couldn't hold a candle to this vehicle for the money. I love this car and I couldn't be happier.

Good vehicle; service issues

The Santa Fe overall gets good gas mileage and drives well. There were quite a few recalls. The service department at Johnson Hyundi in Apex NC may be renamed the no service department. I have waited on 3 occasions 4 hours for an oil change. It is a 6 week wait to make an appointment.
